Surround sound no longer works?

It seems one of the recent updates has broken surround sound for me. It used to work just fine, but at some point in the last few weeks it's gone back to boring old stereo.

Nothing's changed in my configuration -- in fact, I just reinstalled Windows and it's still the same. Surround sound continues to work fine in all my other games.

My setup, in case it matters: Windows 7 x64, sound card is an Auzentech X-Mystique 7.1 Gold (C-Media CMI 8768+ chipset). It's set up in both Windows and the sound card driver as a 5.1 device.

Anything I can try? This is really killing both the immersion factor and my situational awareness...

Edit: Just tried the original PAYDAY and once again, surround sound worked just fine. This problem seems to be exclusive to PAYDAY 2.

Having the same issue unfortunately. Only getting Stereo.

Realtek ALC892 in Windows 7 x64. Properly configured and all, as I'm having no issues with surround sound with other games.

Same here. Windows 8.1 64bit, Sound Blaster X-Fi. Game is only stereo.

Same here. Only stereo sound. Tested on Sound Blaster Recon3D and Realtek HD. Windows 8.1 64bit.

Same here :( Only stereo. Did the game had 5.1 at the release of the first version?
