This thread is meant to track known issues in PAYDAY 2 that have an impact on gameplay and/or stability. The ones listed here is only the most major issues and is not by any means a complete list.

Problems with Payday 2 on machines not running Windows 7 or later

Payday 2 is officially supported on Windows 7 and later as well as Steam OS.
The game is not supported on OS X (Mac)
The game may not work correctly on other Linux versions.
Any issues with PAYDAY 2 on Linux based systems should be posted in the Linux Sub-forum where other Linux community members can help.

Windows XP and systems under the specified minimum requirements
As the game grows so does the system requirement, due to this we needed to update the minimum requirements for the game. The game is not supported on older operative system. As the game keeps getting updated we are unable to guarantee the game will run properly on older systems. Other software such as drivers and other 3rd party programs keep updating and so does the game. Older systems might not be capable of running the game properly and we can not keep a guarantee that it will. Therefore the support for this systems have been pulled back. Not being able to run the game on a system that is no longer supported will not be considered a bug.

RAM limitations on 32bit systems

When playing on a 32bit system the limitation you computer will not be able to allocate more than 3GB of RAM this will not be enough to run some of the larger heists on high graphical settings. If you are having issues playing of large maps on a 32bit system you can try lowering the video settings.

Game starts with Black Bars / Black Screen / Game does not start

If the render settings did not get set correctly, the game may start with an number of different issues like black bars or a black screen. To fix this you need to set the resolution manually.

• Press the Windows Key + R, a new window will appear
  
• Type in %localappdata% and press OK
  
• Open the PAYDAY 2 folder
  
• Find the files render_setting.xml right click and choose open with notepad.
  
• Press Ctrl + F
  
• Search for resolution
  
• Set the values associated with resolution and refresh rate to the appropriate values for your monitor.

Game won’t launch due to missing MSVCR120.dll

In the event your game is not launching after clicking on the play button, it is possible your issue is related to missing Microsoft programs on your computer. To verify it, the first step is to launch the game in administrator mode from the root folder. If the issue persists, a message indicating you the cause of your issue will appear:

« MSVCR120.dll was not found. »

If getting this message, it will be imperative to do the following steps:
- Delete all Microsoft visual C++ from your computer (can be done with the control panel)
- Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 (both the x64 and x86 versions) and then install Microsoft visual C++ 2015 (also both of the x64 and 86 versions). Here’s below the download links for the required programs:

- If the issue still persists, try to copy-paste the system file MSVCR120.dll (32 bit version file) into your Payday 2 game folder.

Some computers with internal graphics cards can't start the game

There is an issue with PAYDAY 2 not choosing the correct graphics card on laptops with integrated graphics cards. Until this can be fixed, here is how you might avoid the issue:


AMD:

• Right click on the desktop
  
• Select Configure switchable graphics cards”
  
• Expand All applications”
  
• Choose Add application”
  
• Locate your PAYDAY 2 folder
  
• Click on payday2_win32_release.exe and click “OK”
  
• Under Graphics Settings choose High Performance”
  
• Click Apply

NVIDIA:

• Right click on the desktop
  
• Select “NVIDIA Control Panel”
  
• Expand “3D Settings”
  
• Click on “Manage 3D Settings”
  
• Click on the “Programs Settings” tab
  
• Find ““Payday 2 (payday2_win32_release.exe)”” in the “Select a program to customize” roll-down
  
• Click add
  
• Locate your PAYDAY 2 folder
  
• Click on payday2_win32_release.exe and click OK”
  
• Choose “High Performance NIVDIA processor”
  
• Click Apply

Some older cards might not support switchable graphics cards, some users managed to avoid the issue by disabling their integrated graphics card from launching PAYDAY 2, and then enable the graphics card again, after that the game worked correctly.

• Open the device manager (which can be searched for by pressing Windows Key + S)
  
• Expand “Display Adapters”
  
• Locate your integrated graphics card
  
• Right click and choose “Disable”, your screen resolution will change
  
• Reboot the computer
  
• Start PAYDAY 2 and then close it again
  
• Open the device manager
  
• Expand “Display Adapters”
  
• Locate your integrated graphics card
  
• Right click and choose “Enable”

PAYDAY 2 starts with a dark or bright screen / The game is blurry or covered in red dots

This might be caused by an Anti-Aliasing being forced from your GPU. To fix this do the following:

AMD:

• Right-click on your desktop
  
• Choose "AMD Catalyst Control Center"
  
• Click on "Gaming"
  
• Click on "3D Application Settings"
  
• Find "Anti-Aliasing Mode" and set it to "Use application settings"

NVIDIA:

• Right-click on your desktop
  
• Choose "Nvidia Control Panel"
  
• Expand "Manage 3D Settings"
  
• Select the profile for Payday 2
  
• Reset all settings to default
  
• Find all setting that mention "Anti Aliasing" and set it to "Application-controlled"

Can't connect to crime.net / Can’t connect to other players / Achivement does not give reward / Stuck at Waiting for response / Stuck in loudout when all players are ready

A bad connection to Steam can have multiple symptoms and equally varied solutions.
Here are a few fixes you can try.

• Restart steam, read below how to do that
  
• Opt out of the Steam client beta, read below how to do that
  
• Reboot the computer
  
• Restart your router

You can also try to flush the DNS

• Press the windows key and the R key, This will open the “Run” windows
  
• Type in cmd and press enter, this will open the command prompt
  
• Type in “ipconfig/flushdns” and press enter

You can also try to disable background download

• In the Steam client click on steam in the upper left corner
  
• Select Settings
  
• Click on “Download”
  
• Unclick “Allow downloads during gameplay”

Keyboard or mouse lag

If you are experiencing mouse lag, try lowering the FPS:

• Go to the PAYDAY 2 main menu
  
• Click on “Options”
  
• Click on “Video”
  
• Click on “Advanced”
  
• Set “Frame Rate Limit” to 30

Another way to decrease mouse lag or keyboard lag is to turn off multithreaded rendering:

• Open your Payday 2 folder (read above if you have trouble finding it)
  
• Find context.xml and open it with notepad
  
• Click Ctrl + F
  
• Search for “multithreaded”
  
• Set “multithreaded from “true” to “false”

Steam errors when installing, updating or starting the game

Installation or Update Fails with Disk Read or Write Error

You can also try to set the exe file for Payday 2 to read only.

Straing the game gives a Missing Content Manifest error

Then set the region back to your country or something nearby if your country is not available.

Steam claims you don't the game
If steam doe not register the game or a dlc and owned you may need to restart steam and make sure steam has connection to the internet.

There are a few programs that have been reported as causing issues when installed alongside PAYDAY 2, if you are using any of them and you are experiencing performance issues or crashes you might want to consider any alternatives. We would like to point out that we have not confirmed these issues but we have seen reports about these or issues that no longer appeared once the program was no longer running.

Game won't launch due to 0xc000007b error

In the scenario you're getting this error, this means your computer is missing the necessary programs and drivers for gaming in general. Thanks to the awesome help of the moderator NewPJzuza, here's a following list of the drivers and programs you should look for:

Note:

• PayDay 2 required Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable both 32 bits and 64 bits version so you have to install both versions.
  
• For .NET Framework it depends on your windows OS system so check it carefully.
  
• For CPU drivers and other programs please check your computer; hardware devices and programs you want to use.

How to Make My Game Playable?

1. Download and Install "The Necessary Programs and Drivers for Gaming"
   
2. Reboot your computer.
   
3. Test your game by launching it.
   
   • If your game works then congratulation
     
   • If your game doesn't work and your game has been crashed to desktop then the following things you can do are;
     
     • Make sure that you are using the right GPU. If you are not sure. You can use this guide; Some computers with internal graphics cards can'’t start the game.
       
     • Make sure you don't have any Softwares conflict the game.
       
     • Verify your game.
       
     • Change your screen resolution and refresh rate in the renderer_settings file.
       
     • Repair DirectX, PhysX and Vcredist installations.
       
     • Change DirectX Hardware acceleration to "Enabled".
       
     • Increase Virtual Memory.
       
     • You can try to Change compatibility mode and Run PAYDAY 2 in administrator mode.
       
     • You can even try Restarting Steam or Disabling the Steam overlay.
       
     • Additionally, If the issue still persists, try to copy-paste the system file MSVCR120.dll (32 bit version file) into your Payday 2 game folder, it could fix this issue too this way.
       
     • Not recommended; Reinstall the game again.
   • If none of the ways above worked then check your crash.txt and post it in Bug Reporting forum.

Outfits end up relocked/don't get rewards from completing achievements

Due to how the game is checking on your steam data whenever the game is launched, it can sometimes happens that it fails to recognize achievements you've cleared and thus may relock content hidden behind achievements like outfits or the Golden Spoon Melee. In the event this issue happens to you, here's the recommendations for solving it:

• make your steam profile's game info public or private(depending on which options you picked originallly) and start the game.
  
• If issue persist - restart steam.
  
  Once you're done, you can reverse the changes with your profile.

Crashing when starting a heist while using a controller

We have reports from players who uses controllers on PC that they have experienced crashes when starting a heist.
In the crash log it said:

Application has crashed: C++ exception
[string "core/lib/managers/controller/corecontroller..."]:344: Invalid controller wrapper. Tried to connect to non-existing controller id "keyboard".

or:

Application has crashed: C++ exception
[string "core/lib/managers/controller/corecontrollerwr..."]:369: Invalid controller wrapper. Tried to connect to non-existing controller id "mouse".



If this happens to you, you will need to reset to default controls:
From the main menu or a lobby menu
Choose "Options"
Choose "Controls"
Choose "Default Control Options"
