Bugged Textures Not Obeying Quality Settings
You can see them easily if you turn your texture setting in the renderer file to "disabled". Since I'm having to do this more and more often just to have a new heist be playable anymore, it becomes more noticable.

Scarface Mansion has more than a few, mostly it's this grey marble texture that's on almost all of the outside walls, for a small example.

Shacklethorne is the biggest offender for me, there are a TON of textures (the entire outside floor in particular) that are not affected by lowering the texture settings, staying permanently at max. Every time I look at the mansion in Shacklethorne, I get a solid 3 seconds of input lag, even in stealth.

A lot of people are complaining about inconsistent FPS, this may be contributing to the issue.

This is still a major problem, and it's not listed on the known bugs page.

To make this thread bump more worthwhile (and hopefully help give it consideration), I've included multiple screenshots of Shacklethorne, the first map that displayed this serious issue. I'd show the ones on Hell's Island, but it's present in every room on that map, I just don't have the patience or time to screenshot every single broken texture in those rooms. Edit your texture settings to "disabled" in your renderer_settings file, the problem becomes even clearer, especially on Hell's Island.:

After extensive modding and programs to trim my computer's processor usage down, I managed to get about 15 frames on Shacklethorne so long as I stare at the floor as often as I can. The other two new heists are somehow even worse, I'm getting literally 3 frames a second on Hell's Island. This much frame loss (and expecially the input lag) make survival on Deathwish and Death Sentence extremely hard, and with Hell's Island being so much worse, practically impossible. No amount of modding could make that map playable for me, so many of the textures have this problem that it's beyond my ability to gut the game any further.

The latest two maps are unplayable for me because of this problem. I actually cannot finish the game because of it. I don't want to seem like a whiner, yet I've been with this game for 4 years, loved it to pieces, and really want to see the game's true ending.

Nope, and all the newest heists have even more of these bugged textures (except for the Border Crossing heists because they were almost entirely made out of very old, already existing stuff). DX

Three years of buying DLC after DLC, and not a single new map was playable. I've just been throwing money down the toilet every time I've given it to Overkill for their bugged-up heists, and I'm sick of it.

Coincidentally, I was considering adding some more screenshots for proof just yesterday. I said I wouldn't do this because there's so many bugged textures that it'd take all day, but apparently I have to if I want to finally prove to someone at Overkill that these bugs exist. Maybe they'll notice this game crippling bug if I just spam this thread full of proof, eh? :VGRUMPY:

I might also just scale down the textures my own bloody self. I love Payday 2 enough to put in the work, but it still sucks that I'm basically doing hours and hours of bugfixing just to be able to play with something I've already bought. If I do make a fixed texture mod pack, I'll link it to you here!

After a couple years, I know this might be late but I'll try to provide as much as I can because it would seem you're still having this issue.

From my understanding, most of PAYDAY 2's texture "settings" per se are hidden inside the renderer_settings.xml file. Things such as the texture quality of props, buildings, NPCs, weapons, and more are contained within it; even shadow quality and dynamic lighting. For reference, these kinds of things are conveniently made by somebody from ModWorkshop [modworkshop.net] who made a renderer_settings file as a download that has everything set to Very Low. Just by viewing the file alone should be resourceful enough to get an idea on what I'm talking about should you choose to continue on that path of you wanting to edit your renderer_settings.xml file manually.

All in all, the in-game video settings really don't offer that much as you can't necessarily tell how much is actually being changed.

I'm scared your comment might cause a dev to ignore multi-year bug report as a false claim, so I kinda have to go into detail and repeat myself a lot. It looks like I'm being passive aggressive, but I simply must repeat myself here. This is a very, very prominent problem that nobody seems to know about except for people like me who have to play on the Very Low. I'm a little at wit's end right now trying to get someone to at least acknowledge that this bug *exists*. They did on a lot of minor versions of this problem, like bugged weapon textures, but not bugged heist textures.

I already know about editing the renderer_settings file, I've been using the Very Low setting for 6 years straight. Editing that file is literally the only way I can get my computer to run the game.

I also use many many many many processor saving BLT mods. My screenshots actually *are* on Very Low, making every single other texture an indistinct smudge while lots and lots and lots and lots of other textures that are still stuck at 100% at max quality regardless of what the setting is. I even mentioned this in my very first post, that these bugged textures become as obvious as daylight when you set the texture settings on Very Low. What's more, if it were ALL textures being effected, I wouldn't be complaining about this. No, it's not all of them, it's a significant portion of them and they're concentrated around every new heist they've added since 2017.

-Please- look at the evidence I provided before assuming I'm ignorant, I promise I'm not making this up. Like I said, I've been on Very Low since shortly after buying the game six years ago, it's the only way I can play the game on my cheapy 100 dollar computer! I appreciate you taking the time to write your message, yet it would've saved you some time if you looked at my screenshots first. My topmost screenshot is the biggest, most blatant example of this. Like it says, compare the stair texture with the cobblestone texture surrounding it. Heck, my screenshots are the size of a thumbnail for a reason; that's my actual in-game resolution setting, it's a custom setting that I HAVE to play on. I SWEAR, it really is that lots of textures in the game DO NOT have any detail scaling enabled! >_<

I spent an hour just now looking through the textures I extracted and plan to edit, and yes, there are a LOT of textures that literally have *no* mipmapping. Paintings, lots of normal maps, cobblestones, etc had zero detail scaling layers. Most *did*, but many many others do not. If you still don't believe me or believe I'm somehow causing that bug myself, I can reextract the bugged textures from Shacklethorne and post a screenshot of their complete LACK of mipmap layers. For pete's sake this is a REAL THING, dangit!! Test it yourself if you don't believe me, just head to Shacklethorne and look at the floor immediately after spawning in! DX

Also, if anyone sees this and wants to have a fix for Overkill forgetting to tick the Add Mipmaps option when saving their textures, I decided I'm going to make a gigantic mass patch for every single bugged texture in this game. Bar none. Even old ones. I've already tested my own fixes myself on Shacklethorne this morning and just resaving the textures with mipmapping turned on gave me an IMMEDIATE frameloss and input lag reduction! Shacklethorne is playable if you just fix the damn textures!!! Anyway, I'll link it on the Mod Workshop when I'm done.

Everything you've said falls under the category of PAYDAY 2 lacking fewer options to optimize the game for low end machines. This has been going on for a long time and it doesn't surprise me that your screenshots are proof of this. Coming from somebody with a high end machine, capable of running other games on Ultra High graphics or whatever, PAYDAY 2 still isn't even that greatly optimized for just about any computer; even with modifications or third party programs that promise to "boost" your game FPS or such. I can see how mipmapping would be a beneficial thing for this game in particular considering just how many high-res graphics there really are as it would greatly increase performance, or at the very least just by a slight amount.
