I only play on the highest difficulty now and I find they can be useful, so anything I say will work for any difficulty. On console as it stands right now, they technically aren’t better than actual players because actual players can use the inspire skill (instant revive) and drop equipment (ammo, doctor bags, etc). However, they are REALLY tanky, like ridiculously tanky even on the highest difficulty. They don’t dish out a lot of damage but they take a ton of it. Cloakers are their biggest weakness since the team AI bots don’t do a lot of damage and cloakers have a ton of health on high difficulties. Cloakers, LMG/Minigun dozers, and the SWAT Van Turrets that occasionally show up on some maps are essentially the only enemies that will consistently down them. The team AI bots just draw so much aggro from the cops and it’s actually really useful. On the highest difficulty especially you can die so fast that literally any fire they draw away from you is helpful. Each team AI bot can also carry a single loot bag on their back now, which can be useful sometimes too. Right now on console we don’t have the Crew AI Update, which significantly improves the benefits of bringing team AI bots and makes solo play a lot more forgiving. It basically lets you select a group of perks each AI crew member will give to you or they can use themselves, such as a bot being able to use the inspire skill. We *should* be getting that in the next update, whenever it comes out. I’ve been able to complete every heist in the game on the highest difficulty solo with only team AI without this Crew AI update, so I would definitely say playing solo is viable on any difficulty once you get good enough at the game and with the right builds. Obviously though you will have a tougher time depending on the map, with real players or with AI.
And while there aren’t THAT many people playing the Crimewave Edition these days, I don’t think you’d have a hard time finding at least 1 other person to play with. I play on Xbox so I can only speak for that platform but there’s still dedicated players who play pretty much every day and some of them make posts looking for other players/groups daily. I’m sure Playstation isn’t much different.
TL;DR: Yes, the bots are a bit better now but still aren’t perfect and glitch out sometimes. However, they are ridiculously tanky even on the highest difficulty and the amount of fire/aggro they draw away from you can be really helpful. Solo play can be harder but is viable on all difficulties once you get good enough at the game and should only get easier if and when we get the Crew AI update, which *should* be included in the next patch whenever it comes out. You also should be able to find some people to play with regardless if you really don’t wanna play alone. Whatever the case though there are definitely advantages to playing with bots and advantages to playing with real players and both ways of playing are viable.
no prob :)
