If you don't want to evolve your weapon into any of the colored forms, you can evolve it into a "mixed" form by picking at least two different colored passives eg. 2x blue 1x red. Three different colors work too ofc.
All of the mixed evolutions are a stronger version of the base weapon, so they won't ruin your playstyle. I'd still recommend discovering and trying out some colored evolutions though, because they're much more powerful than the mixed evolution while keeping the base weapon's playstyle intact.
The problem is that if you are maxed on weapons and don't have a weapon to evolve, chests will reward you with relics, which can screw up your build. If I'm trying to focus on making a weapon a spread weapon and a chest rewards me with the relic that forces everything into a single bullet, that sucks.
Not sure if that's what OP is referring to or not.
if you dont have ALL 3 PASSIVE UPGRADES OF THE SAME COLOR/ELEMENT you will always get the "default" super weapon form. so dont be afraid to abuse re rolls
