Getting more stars
So, before my biggest museum's existence was rudely cut short by a random crash and a corrupted save that I haven't been able to recover from, I feel like I was starting to identify a problem around 8 stars in Memento Mile. My computer definitely couldn't handle more than 400 guests. This means that even when they increase the cap, I can't realistically take advantage of that without melting my computer. In order to keep increasing stars, you have to keep getting more exhibits. As you add more exhibits, you have to expand your facilities, hiring more experts and more security to care for your ever increasing museum. But if your guests are capped at 400, this means your income is also capped, does it not? Doesn't this mean there is a pretty firm cap on how big you can build your museum before the cost of maintaining it exceeds the money you can extract from 400 guests? Does this mean there will eventually be a curator objective hanging over my head that I straight up will never be able to achieve?

Hopefully not. I know that they have said that optimization is also a priority, so if we're lucky, that will roll out somewhere around the time they increase the cap.

Fingers crossed.
The visitor capacity isn't 400 guests. That's the "displayed" visitor capacity. You'll have more than that, you just won't see them.

This, though I worded it as poorly as some of the in-game descriptions, sorry about that. By "cap" I meant the max file size, which is often reached around the time that people who have better systems start tanking in performance and around the time they see max visitor display.

My bad, listen to Jaggid!

So the guest counter just starts lying after 400? Because it felt like nothing I was doing was bringing more guests in. Unfortunately, I can't go back and test for myself because my only museum large enough to melt my computer no longer exists.
It's not lying. You earn money, buzz, etc. just the same for however many visitors it reports. It just doesn't render them.

That's my understanding at least, based on responses in other threads. And also because I have not disabled the visitor "cap" in options, and I have one museum with 739 visitors (and it generates a metric ton of income).

If you want more visitors, you need to have more exhibits. Fish work really well for that.

Warning on the 5th Star for the pre history one, if you rush exhibits instead of analyzing them like what I did. You will need to backtrack and need to get those again just so the Mayor can give you a good rating for the 5th Star.......

It seemed like nothing I was doing was getting the count above 400. Like, I went and did the entire space anomaly thing (and of course grabbed every other space exhibit along the way) and it caused zero change to my guest count.

Maybe I'm wrong and my museum that has over 700 visitors is just bugged. I'm basing what I said above just on that museum and what I saw stated in another thread (here)

The one I have with more visitors is Passwater Cove, which is at a museum level of 53 and a total buzz rating of 7895.

So I got my museum back. And there is a setting. There is a setting to remove the maximum number of characters. I unchecked it and the count started rising above 400. And I am like 99% sure it corresponded with an increase in museum revenue. So there is definitely a hard cap on how big your museum can get with that setting, meaning it is impossible to "beat" the game in the sense of there are no more objectives (if you leave the game in the default settings), even if the curator levels do eventually end, which.. I have no clue if they do or don't or if you can just keep filling that box with stars to the endof time.
Not sure what to tell you, m8. I just had another museum exceed 400 with that setting still off. So either your game works differently from mine, or the tooltip for the setting is backwards and "off" means "no limit".
I have a museum that will lose *tons* of money if I leave the guest limiter on. If I remove the limiter, I break even about 650 guests, and I make tons of money at 800+ guests.

If I then put the cap back on, I see the same behavior until as it slowly goes down over time.

This tells me that it does *not* count how many guests *would* be there, but only the ones that actually *are* there. There's no magic in the game to compensate for the cap.

Okay, but explain what you mean by limiter "on" vs. "off".

The setting itself is named "No Character Limit", which means that having it on is how you remove the limit. The tooltip for it even says as much. Off on the other hand, means the limit is in place.

I'm just wondering if it is working backwards from that, seeing as I get far more than 400 visitors when I have it off.
I'm just circling back to say that I got my own answer. My game's settings were glitched/bugged. After asking the question in my previous post here, I turned the setting on and ran the game for a few hours...and my visitor count continued to climb. So changing the setting made no difference.

When the visitor count reached ~600, I went back into settings and turned it back off, at which point it started to decline immediately, eventually going back down to ~400.

So the setting does work as described in the tooltip, but it wasn't doing anything at all for me until I toggled it, played for a while, then toggled it back. Obviously some kind of bug related to that setting exists.
I have this exact problem now!
I have just got 9 stars on all the museums. Had to take the cap off - game virtually came to a standstill - with the cap you cant make the money, without the cap the game is unplayable.
I can't go back now to get to the 11 stars it is stupidly asking for because even on a pretty decent gaming laptop there is not a chance.
The game should have been capped at 8 stars maybe so there was an end to it, to then let you work on going back to get all the map unlocked and the pristine exhibits
I am loving it but am thinking whats the point as I cant end of complete it
I like having more things to do, but it is annoying as someone who tends to like to 100% games to see an objective that I absolutely cannot and never will be able to complete.
