The way it is written, the max you should be able to get something on your first survey, regardless of your outgoing survey level is Great, but I too sometimes bring back Pristines on my first mission. As you increase up the survey levels, it should go to a max Epic to a max Pristine, which means that at any level you should be able to bring back an Average or Great, at Epic you should be able to bring back an Average, Great, or Epic, and at Pristine you might bring back anything, but I have just as good a chance of bringing back an Epic or Pristine at Great level or a Pristine at Epic. It's either not working as intended, or the description of "Max Epic" and such is irrelevant and needs to be rewritten to more accurately reflect what can be expected on expeditions.
Also just for clarity, the multi-piece chance descriptions just plain need to be rewritten. Too many people are expecting a chance to get a base part at Pristine when a base part will always be Average even if the survey level is maxed out and the POI is at Pristine level.
A tip from me: After realizing this I now realized, intentionally reducing the chance of events (positive or negative) in general and aiming only survey bonus would drastically increasing my chance getting pristine
If this is true, I'm starting to think I'd have a better chance of getting Pristine from a 100% surveyed location by using the "speedy" option, and making 4x the number of trips vs the 1 detailed expedition (5 days vs 20~ days).
EDIT: This appears to work. Distribution of quality felt about the same, except I did end up with at least 1 Average which I don't think I ever got from Detailed. Still got at least one of each item as Pristine. I leveled my analysis expert by topping exhibit knowledge + filled my bank account from selling the excess. And it didn't feel nearly as punishing waiting for each mission to return. With this result I don't see any reason to continue to use Detailed once you've completed survey, unless they change it or fix it somehow.
Random rolling to complete these things does kind of drain the fun out the game a little, esp when you have to do so many.
As I said before, I do surveys with 140-160% increase and I still get the same exhibit as epic instead of pristine. The other two are always pristine. So I'm guessing that some exhibits need a higher "roll" to go from epic to pristine.
TL:DR - it's random.
for a higher chance have a higher percent explored (lvl3 max) PLUS - you get a bonus for doing detailed exploration PLUS, an even higher roll chance bonus with research into the binoculars with said researcher, PLUS also choose bonus survey scanner for extra +50% bonus - If you stack multiple combos, I almost always pull a perfect exhibit - exception is those exhibits that require multi-pieces. those will never pull anything higher than good until the whole exhibit is assembled; then it automatically goes to pristine.
What's the point of +% in survey level tho, if all you need is +exhibit quality. Would be nice if a dev could clear this up.
It improves the max roll as you level up servay, and unlocks sneaky servay events from the looks of things.
Once you've leveled an area to the cap though, I don't think +servay % does anything
anything above Average... the higher the level... the higher the chance.. its not a definate thing (unless a dev can give input on this?)
