The fastest way I have found to do it is to hire someone new with a blank slot if you need only one skill point in something, and then train them for what you need. If you need two skill points again hire someone new if you don't have one with one skill point already, and look for a mission that needs one of that worker with that school, and send them out (with another person if needed) using the XP boost supply to that mission as much as needed to get them to their second slot. It's much more cost effective and it seems like you get a lot more XP, plus you can sell what you find and usually come out ahead of the game financially. Not 100% sure but I think that running detailed missions gives an XP boost; I haven't tested it, but it sure seems that way. Someone say I'm wrong on that point if I am.
Edited to add: I have hired Lv 5 workers, but they are very rare.
The expedition bonus (chest reward) xp is not shown in the total xp rewarded when they return from the expedition, because it is not added until you actually open the chest, which is after it shows you the returning staff member and their xp gain.
In other words, it gives more xp than people will realize if they aren't actually looking at their staff member's xp after the chest is opened.
For example, I just sent an expert on that expedition who was at 127/300 xp into level 4. Upon returning, it showed he gained +69 xp on the expedition reward screen. Then I opened the reward box and selected the expert and it showed him at 3/500 xp into level 5. That's a gain of 176 xp total, not just 69.
There seems to be some random factor involved in the base xp rewarded as well. Regardless, it gives quite a bit more than "56 Xp for $25,000". Though I still think it's a pretty low amount for what it costs.
Do we actually use these or is is automatically used when we return ?. It makes us claim it which says to me, we use it later to apply XP. But I see nowhere to use them.
Claiming it instantly credits the XP to the staff member, but without it saying how much XP it's crediting at any time, it's hard to see if it is worthwhile at all for the cost.
