- # of shapes on the plaque for the exhibit go from 0->3 with 3 being pristine.
- As an expedition is survey'd on the map, the quality unlock moves from epic -> pristine.
- Typically purple is the 'next-best' colour behind gold/orange. Epic is purple and pristine is gold.
I still get the confusion. They used pristine instead of 'legendary' because it's ultimately a museum exhibit. They could have changed 'epic' as well and then there would have been zero confusion. I do think they tried their best to highlight that pristine is best.
This game also gives each quality on the exhibit itself an increasing number of "dots", with Average (white/grey) being 0 dots, rare (blue) being 1 dot, Epic (purple) being 2 dots, and pristine (gold) being 3 dots.
The colors used combined with the number of dots increasing like that made it pretty obvious to me what the tier ranking is. Not really confusing at all.
Additional guidance on realizing that is also in the game. As you do expeditions, the quality rating of those expeditions increases as shown on the "Survey Level" of the expedition overview. Pristine is the highest level unlock. To me that is an indicator that Pristine is the best one.
TLDR; I didn't think it was confusing at all. Even the word "Pristine" implies it is in the best possible condition. That's what the word means.
Yeah, I've been playing for quite a bit and it only just dawned on me that I've been doing it wrong. I got to the aquarium and was replacing pristine fish with epic. Then not until I got to the map in the top of the trees, did I notice the epic items only have two upgrade slots and the pristine ones have 3 slots.
I'm like oh no I've been doing it wrong all this time. Now I know but my brain has been used to it being done differently. It's quite weird to have to re-think how quality of items go in this game.
Now you mention it and explain it that way, it makes sense. Might just be me getting old...haha.
