How viable is a hybrid build, is it recommended for newcomers?

hybrid is the way to go but it would be best to look at skill builds on youtube or at the raiderz forums traning grounds, though alot of older players still go pure zerk and defender, and only if you want a strictly support cleric, but its better to hybrid for survivability and if you have to solo play.

By level 40, will the player have enough skillpoints to acquire their main classes entire skill board+ another classes skills?

it maybe but thats if you put like 1 point per skill which isnt feasable , as certain skills you would want more than 1 point in it, for example one of my chars has only 1 point in cleric, revitalize, and the other 39 in defender but it doesnt have all the defender skills. as there are certain skills which i want more than 1 point in and certain skills i would only put 1 in for utility.

My build has 39 Defender, and 1 Cleric, and it works fine. Some builds have 15 skill points in Defender, and the Rest in Sorcerer, you just have to make sure you know what you are doing, or you will regret it.

It's actually not bad, the best PvP builds out there are hybrids
personally i use a defender/cleric (using mace/shield) and I can solo pretty much any boss.

and no at max level you wont be able to completely max out any class, thats what makes there be intelligent choices and strategy in a characters build.

(also you get free reskills for level 15 and 20 so any testing you plan on doing is not permanent until after that then you spend tons of gold or real money to fix mistakes... Unless there are reskill books later than that and i'm not aware of them)

The best PVP/PVE build is anything with a shield.
