💀Victim of Mismanagement💀
About Lead Dev and EA
While most early access game launches can recover from a failed launch, unfortunately I doubt Dead Matter can be fix. Lead Dev, you've made the worst possible use of your time and budget money to develop the game. This game would be very different if you could maintain your 0.6 vision. Instead of continuing with small steps, you focused on unnecessary details, made big promises, and sold hopes that you could not stand behind. You bloated your project and we see the result in the EA launch. We were disappointed to see the game turn into this after those promising old youtube dev vlogs.
EX-Dead Matter Dev's Speech. At 5:10 Reportage Starts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ8jWluk_5Q&t=919s :steamthis:What made the game good were the visionary team who worked until version 0.6. Unfortunately, since the plan and management of the project were not handled correctly at the beginning, the project began to disintegrate when the majority of the team started to withdraw from the project. If this game could have progressed with a good plan under good management, it could have been very different from the current state of the game.
Version 01-06 and 07-011
Dead Matter's 0.6 a few years ago was better in terms of content variety, graphics, map design, and apocalyptic ambiance compared to the current EA. The game had potential and soul back then. We could see The team was doing very well in those old devlogs:( You were supposed to fix version 0.6 instead of rebuilding the game but unfortunately, you left it on dusty shelves. You focused on unnecessary details. All I see in EA 0.11 is dear Bob Ross's sweet pine trees. I wish you could add some gameplay mechanics next to that little tree.
Unworked Enough Survival Elements
The game does not provide any reason for the player to survive. This is because survival mechanics are very weak. A normally successful survival game, for example, Project Zomboid. The game offers you such survival conditions that no matter how equipped you are in the game when you go to bed at night like a caveman, you anxiously plan how you will survive tomorrow. So the game keeps you in the process by constantly giving you survival instinct. But when I look at Dead Matter, there is no struggle for survival at all. This naturally causes the player to feel aimless after a certain period and ask himself this. If the game doesn't drive me to survive, then what's the point of playing this game? You have been working on a zombie-themed survival game for 7 years, but there is no development on zombie mechanics. In the old versions, they could at least walk, they would run towards you when they noticed you, they were sensitive to sound, but now they can't even walk properly. You are proud that there are 25,000 zombies around, but these numbers mean nothing because they pose no threat whatsoever. The threat posed by zombies should have been the player's biggest reason for survival, but unfortunately, there is no point in playing the game since there is currently no factor in the game that will push you to survive. This is what happens when you don't focus on such main mechanics enough for 7 years and try to fix them 5 months before launch. You squeezed everything into the last minute. This game would be in a very good position if it focused enough on the basic survival mechanics instead of focusing so much on unnecessary realistic graphics and details. 0.6 was a beautiful vision, I wish you could continue it.
Boring Map Design and Art Design
Instead of designing a more symbolic map, you took an exact copy of the Dead Man's Flat area from Google Maps and imported it into the game. There is no problem in using the real map as a reference, but you are trying to copy it directly. There are only 3-4 neighborhood-sized areas on the map to explore, and all the buildings are boring copies of each other. This makes exploration boring. It would have been more functional if you had designed the map more symbolically, as you did in 0.6. Later, as the game developed, you would expand the map step by step. There were original creative interpretations in 0.6. You were designing the regions symbolically, and art design was good. The apocalyptic details in the environment were successful, giving the feeling of an abandoned environment well. The color palette and was very well balanced. While soft warm tones were generally dominant, a contrast balance was created with the gloomy reflection of the light. The sound design and soundtrack supporting the ambiance were very effective. Overall, 0.6 has a unique atmosphere. Unfortunately, I don't see any originality in the new map design.
Change Your Perspective or This Could Be End of The Project
The biggest problem here is that you misjudge your priorities. I hope you learned a lesson from this EA launch. Unfortunately Dead Matter has no future as long as you stay in your own echo chamber and don't change your management approach :deadrat:

Not so much risk when using other peoples money.

the complete opposite. By using other people's money, they can get caught on legal issues.

Sadly nobody is going to have to account for this dumpster fire. The devs are just going to make any additional money from people that buy this here. The kickstarter backers are never going to get refunds and have no legal recourse. TenCent is just going to write this off as a loss.

The peak players are 99 with a current of 60. Unlikely to pay for more than a few minutes of electricity.

What he said is true word for word, I agree with all of it, unfortunately it's a huge disappointment.

No they won't, that's the issue with backing projects. There is always the risk it doesn't come to anything. Not to mention, the game is out, it's not any good but it's there. Also legal issues even if anyone won they have nothing to pay with.
I agree with what you say. The Dead Matter project has various options. Or sell the entire project to another company and experienced creators. Or change the leadership in QIS, that means the resignation of Nicolas Zorko

I think he's too up himself for that. This was made clear by the removal of hard working dev's content, just because they left.

Also, the budget was more like 10mil, so its even worse

i like how the poster said boring map design, i actually like the idea of having the ability to play in my home province, its different than most games and im all for it, i see them working steadily on fixing what has happened and its getting better, but it will take time and honestly i am excited to explore more of the province through the game.
