Defender's Quest II announced
Defender's Quest II[www.defendersquest.com] is happening!

We have a few exciting things to announce:
  • Better art! Karen Petrasko will do visual design and Dean Dodrill of Dust: An Elysian Tail will be our animator.
  • High res! The game will actually support arbitrary native resolutions and will have HD-friendly art assets that scale.
  • Evolved design! We've listened to your feedback and come up with a design that keeps the best stuff from DQ1 and improves on the rest.
  • Better performance! We're dumping Adobe AIR and moving to Haxe, which will give us a game that runs *natively* at full C++ speed on Mac/Win/Linux.

Full details are available on the site[www.defendersquest.com]

We've also opened up pre-orders[www.defendersquest.com] for those who are so inclined. All pre-orders of Defender's Quest II come with an early-adopter discount off the full price, and include a free copy of Defender's Quest I! It's equivalent to 57% off buying both games at full price. The DEFQ1 copy is separately giftable.

And YES, Defender's Quest II will release on Steam, and all pre-orders come with a Steam Key.

The soundtrack will be done by the same musician who worked on DEFQ1, Kevin Penkin, though he'll also be joined by a *SECRET MUSICAL GUEST* to be announced later.

I wish I could buy the game, but I can't pay via my only paying option -- iDeal. Can I send you my money in any other way?

Preordered. One of my favourite games from a great developer, can't wait for the second one. Preordered the special friends pack, really want to kill my monster lol. Artwork looking really good. So can't wait for this.

I think I'll wait for it and buy it at launchdate. iDEAL is a Dutch solution for using your bank card to pay online. It is pretty easy and safe for use and many Dutch webstores accept it. But when you cross borders, it gets tricky. Steam does accept it (that is how I bought DFQ), but many others (Humble, Kongregate, GOG, Google Play) unfortunately do not. This is however, not something I can blame you guys for, this is entirely on Humble's end.
Still, I love DefendersQuest and I wish you good luck with the sequel (Also, do you have a NL-nl translater yet?)

We don't actually have a dutch translator yet :)

Is there anything you can tell us about the game besides graphics? I like good graphics as much as everyone else, but the real selling point of a sequal should be it's new gameplay features.

I'll post something soon, but this thread might get you started:

This is fantastic news! The only thing holding me back from pre-ordering immediately is that I saw no mention of a release date, or even a casual estimate. Are we looking at 2014, 2015, etc? I understand that you guys don't want to commit to something without knowing exactly what the budget and such is, but it would be helpful to have some idea.

Hey lars be honest with us...are you planning on this being an Early Access game or just a regular old release? The latter is for talented developers - of which I consider you one.
lars.doucet  [developer] Jan 10, 2014 @ 11:02am
2014 is our target, we're PRETTY sure we can hit that, but of course, no promises.

As for Early Access... Defender's Quest doesn't strike me as something that'd be a great natural fit for that model, but I'm not ruling it out either.

I mean, we did initially release DQ1 in an "early" state, but it already had a beginning, a middle, and an end and was a "complete" game. We upgraded the art and added stuff like mods and New Game+ and other things later... but I suppose if DQ2 was "complete" in an early state (even if we had plans to expand) it'd be weird to release it and call it "Early Access...."

In short, I'm leaning away from it but I haven't decided yet.

If you went the route of Klei with their Don't Starve then super. Day 1 you could play their game to your own heart's content. Scheduled updates where every month on the dot. And the game was fantastic.

If you want a true abortion go check out Godus. Better yet, don't. The forums, the game, the reviews...what a nightmare.

You'd probably be the only dude I'd do another Early Access with. You are real talent, DQ2 looks very promising (artwork looks fantastic!) and I know you'd finish whatever you set out to do.

At any rate, can't wait. Always will be a big fan of DQ.
