How many guards does it take to kill a single Tyranid warrior?
During the battles I notice the guard can kill the smaller tyranids if they are on equal numbers but start dropping when a warrior reaches them. Have you seen guardsmen killing tyranid warriors? Seriously guardsmen need more specialist gear like flamethrowers and grenade launchers.

They're just normal IG soldiers, not kasrkin or anything like that, they get flashlights and that's it.

I know but you thought at least one member of a squad could have a special weapon to add more firepower to the squad.

Not all Lasguns are built to tolerate that increased charge and they either wear out rapidly or cease functioning after a couple dozens shots.

Kriegsman Rifles, the Lucius No.98 might be your best bet for overcharged shots over longer periods since they are build more durable but are also heavier.

Also if they are they need a backpack and hose so they don't run dry after two shots. Even then, they aren't the best option. Hellguns still have issues against Marines and light armor.

Their just cosmetics.

They don't normally give them better equipment because they are all considered expendable cannon fodder. The empire has over a billion worlds under it. When they need more they pick one, fly down and force people to join the war. They don't give them weapons because they figure they won't be alive long enough to use them. Being a guardsmen sucks. Most of the time they go crazy from seeing things they never thought possible. A lot of the words are ignorant to what is truly out there. Imagine being on a nice planet with no issues and never knowing anything outside of that planet, then you get dropped into a world with millions of man eating beast running over the lines like it's nothing.

Often they fight because they are at constant threat of execution on the battle field from the commander, who will shoot them right then and there. There are some worlds who produce pretty good fighters though. Krieg is one of them. But the people of Kreig are crazy and will die trying to kill anything no matter what, as if they have no emotion. (There's an entire back story to that)

Guardsmen do not last long. They don't spend the resources on them. a flame throwers not so useful when you have to kill 500,000 enemies who feel no pain do not care if they die and will run over you until someone gets you anyway. Tyranid eat EVERYTHING on entire planets until there is nothing but rock and dust left. They use it all to evolve themselves into better killers and repeat at the next planet. I won't go into detail but most the time when an invasion starts it's already over. They use tyranids agents to mind control important high up members of government. By the time the invasion breaks out so does a civil war and no one knows who the enemy and ally even are. The planets defenses can't even be used they are sabotaged from the start. (Which is why you have to take control of the anti air/space guns again) Normally they would be shot out the sky from the beginning but the betrayals make fighting back impossible. They do release them from the mind control though so they can watch everyone including the formally mind controlled get eaten. But by that time it's already over.

There's a reason this game takes place during the 4th Tyranid war.
By the time a signal for help reaches anyone that planet may have been eaten 100 years ago and no one noticed. The empire has over a billion planets in it. They can't be everywhere it takes time to get there even if you get the message in time. And losing one planet is not that big a deal in the grand scheme of things. (To the empire)

In regards of pure killing power, there also the Hot-Shot Lasguns from the Tempestus Scions, more specifically the Ryza Pattern. At full setting it can burn through Ceramite, which is the main component of Power Armor.

Needless to say, that they get toasty hot, very fast at that setting.

Thanks for the information. Life as a guardsmen sucks. The Tyranid are a really terrifying force.

Saw a team of 4-5 Guardsmen put a warrior into execute range on a Ruthless Decap earlier. Was cool to see.

Pity. In the first Space Marine game you could use the heavy bolters turrets and rip them off the stand to carry as a weapon. A guardsmen on a heavy bolter turret was quite effective at mowing down groups of orks.

Wish they were usable in SM2. It would have been quite a sight to see a group of soldiers manning heavy bolter turrets killing swarms of gaunts.
