The more I play, the more I appreciate Darktide's melee game.
I know not everyone here has played the game, but oh man.

Darktide has such nuance to melee, if you master it, you do not fear even hundreds of mobs charging at you.

t was truly up to player skill. You could have a trash weapon but still tackle high difficulty with it if you knew what you are doing.

This one feels like just number game. Skill alone just doesn't seem enough to tackle high difficulties if your weapons number aren't high enough.

I feel silly rolling away from trash mobs as a bad a$$ space marines.

Each weapon also felt different from each other, keep giving me a reason to comeback for more with different weapons if I feel a bit bored with what I've been using.

Using thunder hammer FEELS like using one when I see huge dude flying off to the side when I hit them with it with proper "thunder" sound effect and same with other weapons.

I was hoping to live my power fantasy as space marine when I was waiting for this game.

Oddly enough, I feel more powerful as an ordinary human in Darktide than here.

Just little sad that I already feel like I got all the miles out of this one after 50 hrs or so when Darktide could easily have 300 hrs plus before I felt bored from it.

Trash mobs are freaking TYRANNIDS...

Of course you feel more powerful in Darktide because you face hordes of human zombies and other big enemies AS A HUMAN. Did you even try to run through the chaos human traitors with your space marine? THEY ACTUALLY EXPLODE WHEN YOU DO! This is how powerful you are in Space Marine 2. The feeling of struggle is because you're facing a lot of enemies considered as MAJOR THREATS by humanity on your own, with only 2 other space marines with you. A human from Darktide would melt in front of a Zoanthrope just because of their warp powers. Tyrannids ranged weapons and Warriors would wipe their asses with Darktide characters.

The feeling is different because the relativity of forces in presence are totally different. Your Space Marine would cake walk any horde and enemy from Darktide while sipping a beer.

There is almost nothing different about the combat here. If anything, they're practically identical with both having incredibly simple strings. Both have dodge cancels, both have simple 1,2,3s, both have light and heavy attacks you can alternate between.

The only REAL difference is in SM2, the combat has much more weight to it. Darktide is very spammy and fast paced, especially if you play Zealot like I do. You're just doing cleave, heavy attack, cleave, heavy attack. Throw in the occasional middle mouse attack. You do the same thing here sometimes.

Darktide control scheme is much more intuitive. That's for sure.

Also, Darktide uses audio for a imminent warning for block/dodge, instead of relying on blue/red circles, which I like alot too.

Space Marine 2 is messy and confusing. I've played over 50h but still am not used to it 100%.

Man i said it in some other threads too. People threw a lot of s**t towards Darktide, but have to admit, the combat of Darktide is far more fluid and enjoyable.
And even though Vermintide's ranged mechanics felt even better than that of Darktide.

very bad weapon balance, pyss poor damage and no noticeble staggering in power weapons, my friends are abandoning the game after they mastered the melta guns.

Bolter weapons is like peashooter, melees don't do much damage or stagger. right now you are a rolling marine and melee is all about parry.

100% agree with you. Space Marine 2 is fun but it still reminds me of the 2 button win batman style gameplay with the obvious parrys. You know, like a console game. I enjoy it but yeah the combat feels very scripted like you were saying, there is no physics to it. It has nothing on Darktide.

Maybe a skill issue, more like what people share to like.
In darktide blocking is a stance, you can push back and the stance have priority over an ongoing attack, the feeling is fluid.
Also if you master a weapon, you can make combo of light and heavy attack, in fact you can choose what kind of heavy attack you want in the the middle of a combo.
In SM2 it's always a finisher with aoe.

It's not the same kind of game though, and should not really be compared, but i do prefer darktide combat, I feel more like a capable duelist, master of my weapon, and give me more adrenalin.

Timing, position, movement, armor management, and decision making. This is especially true when surrounded by minoris and 5-6 majoris, also while being pelted by both ranged minoris/majoris. All while both of your teammates are busy rolling around like a dumbass because they didnt even bother to practice parrying in the trials or in the tutorial.

What the game needs is a 2nd look at Balanced and Block playstyle, both need an equivalent defensive move that is as strong as parry.

I frequently mix my light and heavy combos with the chainsword, especially if the situation permits it. You can even forgo the majoris executions if you play well enough..

I do believe the other melee types and weapons need a look at. Blocking and shield bash needs to be as viable as parry and balanced.

I think its more so where you have to execute enemy's or do the gun strikes that bothers me. It creates a real consolized batman game loop that will always get boring. They just didnt do it right so they had to put in the cut-scene kills and make them mandatory in order to survive.
