Jokes aside, if someone else uses a Melta, and knows he should cover teammates with it, you can use pretty much anything.
There is no "best gun". The game allows you to switch gun mid-mission to adjust to the upcoming challenge. And sometimes the Melta will be the best.
Choose the elite, get close, shoot until he gets into execution state. Staggering effect from your shots will prevent his attacks. If small enemies get in the way, deal with them.
For the fourth difficulty and when playing with randoms, melta gun is simply critically necessary if you want to successfully complete the run.
The tactical even has a perk that refills the magazine when executing an enemy.
UPD another reason why melta:
- bolter weapons are piece of sh.. for 3/4 difficulties, they need buff
- plasma weapons are underpowered too (except for the plasma pistol for bulwark and heavy)

If we talk about anything but melta PYF. All guns are bad until you upgrade it. So pick anything you are most comfortable with
And ofc doing the farm with your melta / multi-melta :D
And after that, you will be able to play for your own pleasure with other weapons when they become relics :D
