This game is a mess

I have no idea why so many people are praising this dumpster fire. As someone who played Space Marine 1 dozens of times through, unlocked all the armor pieces in multiplayer, and has played several hours of Space Marine 2, Its depressing to see how much worse 2 is than 1.

-The graphics are mediocre. Level design is great, but texture quality is grainy at best. This game looks barely better than the original, which came out during the PS3 era. The graphics settings are set to ultra, I should mention. I have DLSS turned off, because the AI upscaling looks like crap, and my computer doesn't need it anyways.

-The controls are sluggish to the point of hampering the player. response time when dodging and countering is terrible. Moving your character feels like you're walking through a thick swamp. This is AFTER adjusting the sensitivity of the controls and UI, which were set extremely low by default. I'm using a PS5 controller with my PC, btw, connected directly via a firewire USB-C 3.2 cable. Space marines in the lore are depicted as lightning fast, able to control their armor as though it were an extension of their own body. The marines in this game? Move as though their armor wasn't even powered on, and they were forcing it to move through sheer strength. Ironically the essentially undead thousand sons legionaries move smoothly and fluidly, despite wearing very similar (older and less capable, actually) armor.

-Health is a constant issue. Your health doesn't revive, which it did in SM1. This means that unless you have a constant supply of medicae injectors, you're going to get annihilated. Even with 4 stacks of armor, your armor can be stripped to zero within seconds. When you're surrounded by normal enemies such as chaos cultists or hermagaunts, they don't generally broadcast their attacks, making it nearly impossible to use them for executions to regen armor. They simply swarm and attack from all sides. Yes, this is lore accurate, but this is a VIDEOGAME. It needs to have a fair and balanced gameplay loop in order to function.

-Even on easy mode, even basic enemies are absolute bullet sponges. Enemies like hormagaunts and termagaunts take numerous rounds from a boltgun or bolt pistol to put down. A full magazine from a bolt pistol, in fact. Sometimes more than that. This isn't balanced or fair, and also isn't lore accurate either. Even weapons such as the melta gun take an entire magazine to kill enemies such as thousand sons legionaries, which makes no sense at all. Melta guns are an anti-vehicle weapon, designed to melt through tank armor. They should not take 6 shots to kill a single chaos marine. And no, thousand sons legionaries are NOT that much tougher than standard space marines. A thousand sons legionary should not be able to tank multiple shots from a melta gun.

-The AI teammates are absolute garbage. The entire point of having bots fill in for players in coop, is that the bots will fulfill the role the players would have. This means reviving downed players, doing objectives, killing enemies, etc. From my experience so far, bots are completely useless. They won't revive you if you go down, often standing right next to you doing nothing while you die. They don't really do any damage to enemies, and often ignore enemies ready for an execution. They don't help with objectives, even if you tag something for them to look at. You're essentially playing alone if you play coop without other human players. Which means if you go down even ONCE, the mission will fail, and you'll lose EVERYTHING you earned in the mission, including discovered secrets in the level. This happened to me on the last part of a mission. I foolishly counted on the bots to be somewhat competent, since apparently no one was playing the game. I was unable to find a single player to join me using the quick match system.

This is the first game I've bought in years that actively made me so angry, that I simply quit the game mid-mission, and immediately uninstalled the game.

The game's controls, difficulty, and bare bones feel are incredibly disappointing. I've been waiting for this game for years, as I loved Space Marine 1. I'm a huge 40k lore nerd, and I've played the tabletop as well.

I dunno, at this point I shouldn't be surprised. Game studios have let gamers down for years now, at every opportunity. I can count the number of decent releases in the past few years on one hand. What do you guys think? Are you as frustrated and disappointed as I am? I know a lot of you have been praising the game, and many are even saying its not that difficult. I don't personally understand the logic behind that, as my experience has been completely different. Let's talk about it.

I just dont find the combat and encounters enjoyable. The original was more fun to play, its a shame because the game looks fantastic.

OP, I agree with you with almost everything. SM2 is inferior to SM1 as is. The devs have to buff the amour rating and allow health healing at the very least. Then they have to figure out enemy behaviour soon after that. I honestly do not feel like a space marine playing this game, never mind a primaris marine. I wonder if any of the devs ever read ANYTHING from the black library. The game is called SPACE MARINE but we in the game are anything but.

Am hoping the devs fix the game as it is not enjoyable at all.

The combat flow isn't that fun. I dislike relying on hitting E to regain armor.

Honestly they should just lower armor loss on minoris enemy hits, make armor regen faster out of combat, but make majoris and higher enemies hit harder as to not make the game too easy.

They aren't. Play CP2077 if you want to see great graphics.

This game barely renders shadows.

Sm1 with SM2 graphics and effects would be a better game then this. The flow of combat is just not there. Dont care for the swarm enemy's, would rather fight orcs or something else alot of bad design choices here, alot of people still playing the campaign and all the no lifes are leveled up in pvp, going to make the game die very fast if its not fixed as a level one is at a unfair advantage, every design choice in this game sucks

I have a very good pc I agree the game looks amazing, but thats not the issue with it
