Why is heavy's plasma garbage?
The heavy has no ranged anti armor. Fully charged plasma with direct hits doesn't even stagger thousand suns

Chaos in general are very tanky. Frequently run out of ammo on their missions even whilst using Artificer tier weapons.

At one point I had to kill, no exaggeration, 13 Rubric Marines in a row, 2 terminators and god-knows how many demons on only 'Average' difficulty in what was supposed to be a resupply room (had the loadout pod). The chaos missions were clearly rushed.

are you getting the perks? extra damage and faster charge i put em in that staggered state in 2-3 shots on ruthless plasma is hella good

Stagger reaction to getting shot, not the execution stagger.

Heavy Bolter has a similar problem.
Full auto into a units face and it just doesn't react until it's dead.

Heavy Plasma Incinerator suffers the same.
Fully charged shots do a LOT of damage, but the projectile speed, heavy arc and complete lack of hit reaction makes it incredibly subpar to use.

While the Melta staggers elites on practically every shot.

There is no reason to take Plasma over Melta.
Melta gets ammo back through perks, Heavy Bolter has a massive ammo pool while the Plasma starts with 35 shots and eats 5 per charged shot that has a good chance to miss because Warriors like to sidehop a LOT and Chaos Marines teleport before the shot gets there.

I'm lvl 15 on heavy and have perked into everything possible for the heavy plasma to be good. I think the plasma pistol honestly does more work for me than the heavy which is why i'm bummed in the first place. In lore, plasma guns ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slap. I feel like the devs should add more enemies on harder modes, or more mini bosses and let the weapons be as powerful as they are supposed to be. Instead the higher you go, the bastards just all get plot armor. Is there a specific perk that is a game changer for you?

Chaos as a whole are overtuned right now. Yes you can beat them back but it's not worth the hassle nor the time investment. Just stick to the 3 tyrranid only missions. Also the plasma doesn't suck at all, it's fine. HP pools on enemies are just overtuned once you hit difficulty 3. You just learn to work around it really. Can't tell you how many times I've killed a neurothrope as a bulwark with 0 ammo left because their weapon options literally tickle the things.

I don't main heavy, I main bulwark, but I play with someone who does and she has 0 problems with the heavy bolter nor the heavy plasma. Melta is just the most "busted" right now because it keeps up with the HP increases the best.

Does anyone know how to cancel the plasma charge ? Or is it something you commit to and shoot once you start to charge it ?

you can dodge cancel it but its obviously not ideal
parry prolly works too, cant remember

maybe if run canceling also works that would be the best option, just 1 short press
no idea if it does

Default on controller Playstation Square (I think?) / X on Xbox compliant.
The same button you vent heat with.

Edit: No idea if that works for pistol, never consciously tried yet, but you can def cancel the heavy plasma without dodging or something

at max difficulty in a chaos mission (the one with capture the points at end) we found: brute plus sorcerer plus terminator, we maanged to beat them but we falled at last area because of the swarm of dozen of marines and tzangor, probably would have done it with multimelta but yea, chaos is a bit too much bullet sponge.

This is my opinion, maybe heavy plasma (& lots of other weapon) is feel bad because low armor penetration, idk how game calculate damage, but because melta has maximum armor pen, it work as advertised, while heavy plasma and other doesnt work as intended because lack of armor penetration, also heavy plasma require you to hold a bit longer than what you see in indicator (at least until u can see heat indicator moving), unlike plasma pistol, heavy plasma indicator is a bit misleading, it only count as charged if you hold a bit longer

The problem is that melta is mega op and if you compare any gun in the game with it its gonna look like crap
