Tips on surviving as heavy?? In PVE
I know for sure its a skill issue but cant for the life of me sort it out on my own, I get overwhelmed so much as heavy, it feels like I just get swarmed and get curbstomped if my teammates arent drawing aggro for me while I brace fire. How do you avoid this? i can only spam dodge so much, any advice is appreciated, cheers!

I'm still leveling my heavy, you have gotta parry more. The heavy has innate fencing capability on his melee it seems, so that helps. Hip firing while in melee helps too, and you have stomps (your heavy melee) that help with crowd control.

Are we talking pve or pvp, if its pve the weapon upgrades that allow his weapons to pierce additional targets will help your survive against swarms. His parry is pretty good to. Also don't stay in heavy stance if the enemys are close and your using the bolter and getting hit. You might have noticed you can't parry while aiming with the heavy bolter.

Sounds like you need melta in your life. Idk about plasma incinerator but comparing with bolter, melta is just so much ahead. It's versatility and power feels so nice. As long as you have ammo, it is just impossible to get swarmed. Plus there is a bug or a feature that if you have a small bit of contested health, you can fully heal with one melta shot in a swarm. The small downsides are its range and small ammo capacity. But I also run a plasma pistol, so I don't have problems dealing with enemies from afar and ammo problem is easily resolved with perks and ammo management.
Melta. Take the perk that favors 25% more ammo for the rest of your team over reviving fully a downed team mate. Let them get close then dodge back and blast. The melta hits hard enough already so piercing should be the focus, your job is to rip hordes to bits while your bros deal with the hard hitters. Funneling hordes through doors. Ripping them apart as they all rush to hurt ya. Since your a mid to close range class, don't be afraid to pop the shield when you need it. Unless it's grouped up warriors, it's wasted ammo blasting single enemies unless they are about to call for backup. In the hardest difficulties Ammo Clips are king for Melta.

Melta is top tier delete everything infront of you. When that gets boring though - Bolter is also good. Plasma i've seen used really well on Chaos missions, but havent started leveling it yet and not my jam for 'nid missions.

If you start getting overwhelmed, drop a grenade THEN roll - then hose. If you just roll, they'll keep pressure on you and you will get chipped down.

You can also Stomp to stagger, knockback and create that window to roll and hose.

Its important not to just roll, you gotta stagger and create hosing room too.

You'll have some liberty as a heavy to just stand your ground and delete stuff when youve got all your perks and relic weapons, as many weapon perks grant +wpn dmg on heavy stance.

Heavy Incinerators not bad for mobs and mini bosses I think. Can charge it up for more damage and swap weapon if it overheats.

Don't just hold the fire button. Rapid press and release to let out a couple of bullets at a time turns the bolter into a laser.
