Operations could be the bridge between SM2 and SM3, even setting events in motion so I don't see why not.
Also, Space Marines are awesome but they are not the most powerful beings in thr universe not by a long shot so, an entire company being wiped out would not be out of touch.
Think of the possibilities and the potential that operations have...
I can see them being a faction along side with the necrons in SM3.
Or hunting down said Genestealers Cults in the lower city or a derelict and abandoned part of Avarax Hive City.
