Odd that your 3080 Ti can't handle it. Are you sure you're not CPU bottle necked?
Although, my definition of "handle it" is probably very different from yours. I'm happy with a steady 30+ fps, which your GPU should be able to do.
Depending on the settings, there's nothing odd about that.
I've seen this game load up to ~19GB at 4k max settings with the ultra texture pack, Whether it's actually using that much or just pre-allocating the space, I wouldn't know, but if a 3080Ti is choking with the pack enabled, it might actually require more than the 3080Ti's meager 12.
forced Dynamic resolution with FPS cap of 50 and it seems to have solved the sub 30fps dips in the higher complexity areas
i do hope to save up for a better PC in the future but as it is this is all i got lol
1440p max settings (no 4k) gets me anywhere from 60 to 90fps and that is at PCIe 3rd Gen 8 lanes (other 8 are for the hyper m.2 card)
Well, yeah, with all the candy and 4k texture pack, even a 4090 is going to have some low 1% lows, and even average frame rate.
But tweaking the settings should still give a playable/acceptable experience on a 3080 Ti with 4k enabled.
No, it isn't.
Texture quality does virtually nothing to performance as long as you have sufficient memory capacity and bandwidth. My averages and lows are pretty close (~90s-70s respectively), while the occasional large drop is always CPU-bound, which is easy to spot because GPU utilization drops to ~60-70% while my 5800X3D is fighting for its life at 70%+ util.
Most reviews show 7800X3D pushing about 15-20FPS more (min and avg) than a 5800X3D, so the card still has legs while the rest of the system is what's sweating trying to keep up.
texture size does effect performance not only in Vram but in general
assuming enough Vram one could see differences varying from 12 to 20% in performance in modern games on modern GPUs but in the past this would be much closer to 60% performance changes
yes todays GPUs on todays games run them well with moderate differences in performance but it is arrogant to presume that texture size does not effect the FPS performance when it does directly have an impact on performance
its down to the fact that modern GPUs can easily push many gigatextiles per second (cant recall the exact word for it)
anyways there is an objective and measurable performance change when one changes the texture size especially when one is running 8X PCIE .. its just not the obvious 50% to 60% change as it would have been in the past to run AGP graphics on old systems from the 90s
I'm using it without any real issues and love how it makes the game look.
i dont have fast internet at the moment so i get to wait 20 hours to download the pack if i wanted it though am unsure how it will help the games looks (does it fix the shadow map flickering?)
anyways game itself is fun just wish it had first person mode
