Black Ultramarines break established lore
Here's why:
-Space Marines get their DNA rewritten at a young age. This has to be done because the extra organs they’re implanted with carry the DNA of their Primarch. So in order to prevent organ rejection, the aspirant’s entire DNA has to be rewritten to match their Primarch’s. This causes most marines to develop facial, and physical features similar to their gene father. And since their Primarch Girlyman was a blond white dude, most Ultramarines should look like a blonde white dude.
-Space Marine biology automatically changes their skin color to adapt to their environment. One of the organs they’re implanted with can quickly change the melanin content of their skin. So if they’re in an environment where the sun doesn’t shine harshly, the melanin content is removed from their skin to increase their vitamin D production. But if they’re in a radiation dense environment, their skin is pumped full of melanin to give them some protection. So while it IS possible for an Ultramarine to be black in a sunny environment, it does break the lore when they stand next to a battle brother who remained white.

But yeah… I guess diversity points are more important than decades of lore. At least there are no female marines YET… The Custodes sacrificed themselves to protect us from those chaos spawns. May we never forget their sacrifice.

How is this even a debate?

I like posting this whenever someone brings up "why is there an XYZ colored person in my all white Legion, it's woke!"

Unlike you brother, they cannot even defend their own heresy, how could they defend the Imperium? :empireskull:

Perhaps they are defending something else entirely, certainly not the Imperium, I doubt the Emperor cares about the skin tones of His legions. He even changes his own skin color from pale, to light, to dark, heck, in The Emperor of Mankind, the Emperor at one point had very dark skin. And at other times he was light. He is the physical representation of all humans, and all their forms, all at once.

Ain't that awesome? Damn, I love 40k.

Astartes given enough time turn pale anyway.

Astartes skin can go darker to protect them from radiation due to the Melanochrome implant. But this doesn't cause their skin to go 'pale given enough time.'

Mutations in the Melanochrome can cause variations of skin color in different Chapters. Most notably the pale skin of the Raven Guard, and black skin of the Salamanders. But this is the exception, not the norm, and it certainly doesn't affect the Ultramarines.

I read a similar braindead argument on this forum like 2 years ago, I wonder if you copied from it...
What's more braindead is handwaving arguments away while offering 0 counter arguments.

nah he is right you are just braindead, black space marines have always been a thing. There are codexes from 2 decades ago featuring black astartes. Get over yourself u lil' racist.

Very woke of you

I like having a diverse cast of characters, some parts of "wokeness" aren't that bad, lol.

On one hand the gland that controls melanin in all Astartes meaning there is no true black or white for long and also the factor that all Astartes given enough time turn pale anyway. On the other Celestial Lions and 500 worlds within Ultramar.
There's no reason to believe the Melanochrome would make a Marine who's already dark-skinned paler over time. It reacts to radiation, not the presence of melanin itself.

It controls the melanin levels meaning in high sun environments a "white" Astartes skin will turn darker and in low sun environments the opposite happens. Astartes over time turn paler anyway. Sometimes a sickly pale colour.

I mean, if anything they just change based upon environment if they're functioning properly.

"‘Poison… against poison…’ he gasped as the scalding death hit his exposed skin. He stood in the middle of the cloud, a fresh clash of pain erupting in his body as his genhanced biology absorbed the radiation. His melanchromic organ went into overdrive, his skin pigments blackening instantly."

I like this topic, i'm learning a lot about the lore unlike the other posts the just devolved into politics.

Lots of great arguments for and against the topic yet still staying on topic.

... but there isn't any indication that that means that a Space Marine whose natural skin color is dark would become pale over time. It only proves that their skin returns to normal after darkening when subject to radiation. You'd have to find evidence of a black marine's skin turning pale for this to work.

Spoken like a true person-who-played-war hammer-once-and-doesn’t-know-what-they’re-talking-about

Custodes never sacrificed themselves for anything. They got devastated in the web way battles during the heresy, but never “sacrificed” themselves. Nonsense. And skin colour? Salamanders.

Go do some reading.

There is a black Ultramarine on the cover of Avenging Son, which was published four years ago.

Checkmate, racists.

Why would I need evidence? None of the lore matters remember.
