Depends on what your goin for tbh. If ya just want placeholders for tabletop games, go for it!! If your a good painter then printed minis work well if ya have at least an 8k reso printer. Be sure your using the proper resin too or most acrylic paints wont stick well to your models.

If your lookin for something outside WH 40k to paint I would recommend checkin out https://www.myminifactory.com/. Some excellently made models made by people that have some serious 3D printers.

Quality will be slightly less than the pressure molded stuff from gamesworkshop but much cheaper in general and with 8k printers its really not noticeable unless you look really close.
Hardest bit is finding a decent file, followed by adding supports, followed by cleaning supports. It's an entire hobby on its own. I mainly use it to print things like unique characters, unique models, heads, shoulder pads, etc. Most things I print are higher quality but more fragile than the typical GW stuff.

If you want standard GW stuff, buying 2nd hand off FB marketplace is far cheaper and easier. Even stuff you can't get there, you're better off working more to afford it than spending the time 3d printing. It's really an entire hobby on its own.

If you plan on playing in official tournaments, don't. If not, go for it. Having some bits be non-GW (shoulder pads, some heads/helmets, etc) is usually ok but not full squads and certainly not your entire army.
