How does the astartes mod work?
I can install it, have my fun and once removed i can go back to vanilla states without botching anything in my save?

I've installed and removed it several times with no issues to my saves. So in my experience yes. It's about as easy as it can possibly get to install/uninstall as well.

Awesome, thank you!
You do have to restore your armory to vanilla versions before deleting, though, right?

It has been a requirement to reset loadouts back to std (non-mod) weapons prior to deleting the mod in order to prevent losing your exp points, but not sure if anything has changed. I can't see how the vanilla game could resolve non-game equipment in the armory without deliberate coding, which probably isn't in the plan.

Wait, don't mods automatically get detected and the game puts you into private lobbies only since the 7.0 update? This means your progression with mods don't get saved over to vanilla. Granted, I never tried this with the Astartes mod but I did try it with some other gameplay-changing mods and I didn't get the progression saved over to vanilla upon uninstalling the mod. Would love for a way to use mods AND continue to progress on my vanilla save if there's a way at the moment.
You put the mod in the mod folder. You start the mod with your games current progress. If you make progress in the mod that you didnt have in the unmodded game, you wont keep it. You take the mod out of the mod folder, your game goes back to how it was before you added it.

There are steps to save *mod* progress, like leveling mod added classes, so they dont get reset if you take the mod out, but I have never looked into it. Base game makes no progress with mods installed.

Yes, you can only play in private lobbies with mods installed.
