Even on Assault with Powersword and inferno pistol you can do a light attack into a group of enemies and then strait away gunstrike them and instantly kill everything around it with the massive AOE, not needing to ever reload or use ammo.
Are you keeping it in limp mode (speed mode) and not switching it over to f*ck (stud) mode?
I will actually address your argument.
You are indeed correct. This is completely not lore accurate.
Alongside bolters sound or damage.
The way power armour works or looks.
Complete ignorance as to how chapters fight and how jarring it is to see a Black Templar talk about Girlyman or what's worse have cloth on him with XIII printed.
And let's just have a minute of silence about the banner and how it looks being completely ignored as a bulwark piece that should be chapter accurate.
All this is sacrificed for the illusive balance that the devs have set themselves up against.
They have set the game on a parry/dodge system and can't move away from it as it would at this point completely brake the game.
That's why you have stupidity like gaunts killing an astartes or the fact that you will kill around 600-700 of enemies and the mission is over, when the estimates go into trillions. Any guardsman in a mortar squad must be laughing his ass off at this. Making your SM look like a wimp that can be brought down by a small gush of wind from spore mines rather than a walking tank wrapped in ceramite armour literally designed to murder millions of xenos.
And all that is before we address the Rubric marines and their varied animation pack:
There's:
Standing still when teleporting,
Standing still when getting hit in the face with a charged power hammer
Standing still when firing
Standing still when not firing.
Terminators with or without missile pods will still be showing you the same pose of firing missiles and apparently as an SM you are weak enough to get squashed by a gaunt by boy oh boy can you just grab that Terminator and split him open above your head!
The reason was simple enough. Pleasing the console masses and lack of trust in the lore.
They've ignored the very clear feedback that consistently kept asking for more enemies and to push the game into a direction of a power fantasy rather than a quick time event button mashing that apparently is considered "skill" for some.
And as you can tell, for some, this is all they wanted.
More over as I already mentioned for the "git gud" squad this is what is called skill and they can remind you that they have mastered pressing one of two buttons when recognising one of two colours.
Powerswords work really well in the game. Do you use both the power and speed aspect of the sword and switch between them? The whirlwind attack now is super strong. Hits a ton of targets, has good stagger, and does lots of damage. You can use the sword for quick stabbing slashing attacks or wide sweeping arcs to hit many enemies.
it being a video game they couldn't really make it exactly like it is in lore. It has to be strong but not an I carve through everything in my path with one swing strong.
Its in a nice position and i enjoy it on both classes.
