SPACE MARINE 2 IS THE BEST WH40K GAME EVER, HANDS DOWN.
Just like in the title. Sure, there are many other very good Wh40k games out there like Dawn of War 1 or Sanctus Reach or the original Chaos Gate (which is iconic for me) but only SM2 is a proper 1st person shooter\slasher with an adrenaline squeezing PVP - that is really important for me.

The sheer fact it has a very positive review score on Steam and lots of people still play it 7 months after the release although it is not a live service game says much. Most importantly, it looks so awesome, Space Marines finally look right, like Space Marines not some cartoon chatacters, the graphics itself makes it an eye candy for every WH40k fan.

I haven't had enough of it yet and there's still so much ahead, the replayability value is really high here, not to mention the fact that once bored with the main content we can spice it up with mods and finally play a terminator in the campaign if somebody wishes to. Also, the awareness that this title will be continued is very comforting as well, when I think of SM 3 my imagination goes wild :D

I dunno, I think rogue trader does a better job of capturing the scope of the world of 40k.
dawn of war is better, you can only play as space marines in space marine after all and in dawn of war you can play as almost every faction depending on which dawn of war we talk about

I hven't played it yet but I have seen some gameplay, it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea, maybe it has better WH40k feel to it but...it's not a shooter or even a proper strategy, so it can't fly in my books.

True but is it really easier for you to identify yourself with a character that you play and immerse deeply in WH40k world in DoW than in SM2 ? That's a hard question cos I love DoW too, I put thousands of hours in it...but it's not a shooter again :D However, I'd go as far as to put it on the 1st place ex aequo with SM2.

This guy clearly never played Fire Warrior, peak 40k.

You mean me ? I have, it's crap, you can't compare it to SM2.

If we are talking about games where you are playing one character then yes, Space Marine 2 is definetly above the other games. But even overall i would choose Space Marine 2 at least in the top 3 of 40k games.

Its a very impressive game, I just wish they would have written their texts more focused. There is so much kinda unnecessary bloat that it can turn into a real chore reading all that were it doesnt feel that this actually enhances the narrative or worldbuilding. Have stopped twice because of that.

I would still rate SM2 above in terms of w40k athmosphere because of the brutality esp. of the Tyranids in close combat and the outstanding art and character design.

Regarding the game with best W40k athmosphere I think I still go with Space Marine 1. Sm2 has the better gameplay no doubt, but Sm1 has the better story and a lot better side characters and main villain just how you picture a W40k storyline.

Fair enough.

Win what ? Forums is not about winning anything, the game is, if anything. Besides, I have never considered myself a Wh40k nerd, I love Wh40k, I've been in it for many years, it owns a huge part of my heart but not all. I never cared about knowing everything, every little detail either, that is not neccessary to grasp the soul of the system.

Top three for sure! I think it's 50 - 50 between SM2 and Darktide for 1st place to be honest. 3rd goes to DoW1 ofc!

Cowards. The greatest 40k game of all time is clearly Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels

Strange way to type Dawn of War 2.
There is going to be a week long warhammer sale around the 22nd, slashing prices for games and dlc by up to 90%.

Would be a great time to pick up some of the games mentioned here then.
