Weapon Progression Brick Wall
I would like to call out a problem with advancing to the game's higher difficulty levels.

I'm playing operations but, struggling to get the artificer weapons because they're gated behind the substantial difficulty setting. From what I've seen, each new level of difficulty is sharp incline in challenge while at the same time reducing the availability of essential field pickups. Unfortunately, both the single player with AI bots and the player coop modes have their issues which, just makes this problem worse.

To the point, the first level difficulty offers second-tier equipment data but, the second level difficulty also offers only second-tier equipment data. This creates a vacuum in weapon progression which, could be improved.

My suggestion:
- Minimal threat: offers master crafted item data (as it does now).
- Average threat: offers artificer item data.
- Substantial threat: offers relic item data.
- Ruthless threat: offers increased requisitions or similar reward for completion.

My alternate suggestion:
- Trading lower tier armoury data in bulk for higher tier item data.
- In example: master crafted armoury data x 5 = artificer x 1, artificer data x 5 = relic x 1.

I'm not suggesting reducing level difficulty or nerfing combat. I have no problem with earning the higher tier weapons by collecting the equipment data needed but, wish the game would allow us a better chance to arm ourselves to meet the challenge.

Either find a carry git gud or master your weapons fully before trying the next difficulty.

It's a brick wall with unevenly distributed holes in it. Melta-shaped holes, for the most part.

And that's not because it's overtuned, or bugged with overheal, but simply because its main purpose of clearing minoris and staggering everything else is barely affected by the damage difference between weapon tiers.

You'll of course fail the floating bullet sponge ranged dps checks if your teammates don't have those covered, but everything else you should be able to tackle.

@FlynnTheFearless Thanks for the response, I'm not looking to be carried, I'm still working on getting good and I mastered the available weapons already.

I'm just pointing out the weapons progression gap created by having only master craft armory data drop in the first two levels instead of one as I believe it should be.

@jackx Thanks for the response, I was playing heavy until level 20 so, I hear ya'. After many fair to poor operations in either AI or player coop mode, it became clear that, I just wasn't getting any farther and switched to assault. I'm hoping the mobility and play style change will get me over the hump. We'll see.

If any of you need help clearing substantial, I'm more than willing to give you a hand.

It's against everything I stand for but if your just looking for an easy trip up to relic level make a vanguard. Level 25 health return with melta gun. Doesn't take much skill to use and you can do ruthless with one hand with that setup.

Edit: Tyranids anyway.

@FlynnTheFearless, I'm not looking for an easy ride, if I were, I sure wouldn't be doing it with this game. I'm really enjoying the furious combat this game offers. I just think there's something overlooked with gearing up here. Thanks for the advice, I was thinking of Vanguard but, settled on Assault thinking the hammer might be the best option for me.

@Volo, I've heard the devs' are working on the AI for single player. I hope that's the extent of it. I wouldn't argue against leaving the field pickup items static for all levels but, wouldn't want the monster's challenge level to change.

Thanks all!

i agree there is no point to make it you can't grind on low lvls

The only difficulty spike is average to substantial (due to the frequency of waves), if you have full green weapon perks and have at least 1 full row of class perks it won't be difficult.

The difficulty from substantial to ruthless is literally non-existent as long as you have purple weapons and perks.

Just take melta and you're good.

Pretty much this.

You are playing with the meta classes or you arent and if you arent, well, better hope someone comes along to carry you honestly.

This.

You can basically go through substantial and ruthless with a standard melta due to the sheer amount of health you get back.

I like the idea for bulk swapping for a higher tier armoury point. It is a PVE mode after all, what's the harm in letting people slowly get better gear if they're having trouble? :imperialinquisition:
