Block weapons
Can anyone explain the benefit of using a block weapon?
It seem to me like i'm sacrificing a parry (insanely valuable mechanic) for a damage/cleave bonus that I actually cannot see. I have to be missing something.

No benefit. Do not use.

it does more damage for no armor return

They have higher stats. Knife and thundhammer can be used as block weapons (for single target damage and cleave respectively), but outside of that it's better to go fencing or balanced.

The assault class' starting perk is a 50% larger perfect dodge window. They are the only class I would even consider using a block weapon on.

That said, parries are just too useful for creating gaps in a swarm, and fencing weapons can chain parry a group of enemies doing their combos at me.

IIRC
Blocking weapon: Smallest parry window, but every parry is perfect
Balance: its balanced, duh.
Fencing: Largest parry window, cant perfect parry.

No, you are not missing something. Block weapons are basically considered crap by everyone because perfect parry is way too good in exchange for a little bit higher damage.

Incorrect

All weapons have the same "parry window" the style of weapon changes how much of said window is for a perfect one
Block cant perfect parry
Balanced is bout 50/50
Fencing has the highest perfect parry window, thus the lower stats generally found on them

they are trap weapons just avoid them, the extra stats really don't make up for the weak parry

No benefits. the devs didnt play their game and just added random stuff for the sake of it..

Block weapons completely negate damage on a block. They make you "immune" to damage and IIRC also block the Orange Attack damage (it will still stagger you).

Only class that benefits from them right now is Bulwark, and that only because Bulwarks Parry timings are all messed up. Since Bulwark can get enemies into "Gunstrike" State on regular attacks with the Power Sword and Fist, you do not loose to much.. and the Bulwark Class also wants you to do Shield strikes, so it pairs really nice with a Shield Bash build.

While you can't perfect parry with a Block weapon the Bulwark isn't hampered by this as much as any other class, it even has a Talent to stagger enemies on a Shield bash. On any Class that isn't a Bulwark the Block Weapon is an "avoid at all cost" weapon.

Just tested with block power sword and it doesn't let you block orange attacks. You are both staggered and damaged, while fully lacking parry ability. Even animation changed to literally putting sword in front of you to block attacks without parry move after.

All parry's start with a block and then go into a parry. A block weapon simply does the block section. The enemy just doesn't hit you, but isn't knocked back.

They generally have better other stats, put out more damage. You really only want these weapons on assault IMO

You can only block what would be a parry normally. Orange is still doge. You don't really want to use block/parry at all, you want to doge everything and assault gets 50% longer window for perfect dodge and other skills that associate, so that's why i say really only use them on assault as you want to doge and not parry anyways.

That was a reply to a claim it can.

So block weapons only block and negate all damage with a Bulwark Class. On all other classes you perform a regular parry, without the benefits of the enemy being thrown backward?

they are a lot stronger for offensive purpose but at the cost of not being able to parry and you have to rely on dodge.
