Beginner Lore to the world of Warhammer 40K (NO SP2 SPOILERS) (NO POLITICS)

Thanks to Space Marine 2, their is a surge of new players. This post is here to introduce the world of 40k, to our new Battle Brothers and Battle Sisters. Heretics, Xenos, and Mutants.

Space Marines, have different chapters with diff aesthetics, diff motives, and diff play-styles.

Aeldari and Necrons rule the galaxy long before humans even exist. Necrons suffer their mortal bodies, are rejected by gods known as The Old Ones, take revenge with the pact with C'tan (star gods, totally different), but get pranked by the C'tan deceiver and transfer their souls into machines. Necrons and C'tan go to war with the Old Ones, Old Ones invent Orks to combat the roboskellies and their star masters but Old Ones ultimately are put in their place and lost forever. Necrons turn the tables and top the C'tan, totally enslaving them. Necrons take a really long nap.
Aeldari live hedonistic and pleasure-driven lives (they can feel to a much greater extent than we can), and through the folly of their slutty ways lay out consequences unforseen by the rest of the galaxy for a long time to come.

Humanity claims the solar system with slow space travel.
Humanity is overtaken by their own technology, and after a deadly war against the machines they built themselves, says, "never again, Skynet".

Humanity discovers the parallel dimension called the Immaterium, an incomprehensible realm of chaos and psychic energy, and thus invent warp drives in order to travel beyond light speed, making conquest beyond the solar system possible - the entire galaxy was at their fingertips.

Psykers emerge within humanity (new possibilities endless, example being pilots to navigate the immaterium), humanity discovers the existence of chaos daemons (daemonic possession, invasions, etc), Aeldari give birth to the chaos god Slaanesh through "the folly of their slutty ways" and are utterly divided in all facets of their existence, warp storms and divisions in the galaxy torn apart by the emergence of the immaterium and Slaanesh's homecoming party, and the rise of the most powerful psyker to date who is now known as the Emperor of Mankind.

Primarchs, space marines, admec, Omnissiah, knight houses, growing galactic conquest, growing connection across the galaxy between all worlds of humanity thanks to the psionic aid of the Emperor and navigational beacon devices that turn out to be unearthed Necron tech, the discovery of Orks and their unending warfaring, the discovery of T'au.

The Horus Heresy, and thus chaos space marines, dark mechanicum, chaos knights, all that jazz. The Emperor is mortally wounded by his favorite primarch son, and is put on life alert, now forever embedded into the golden throne and the Astronomicon as the primary psionic beacon for humanity, fueled by the daily sacrifices of psykers in mass. Adepta Sororitas (praise comatose daddy emperor - is he even alive, what does it mean to be alive).

Awakening of Necrons (they were always here, sleeping within tomb worlds), the discovery of the Tyranids and their invasions of all corners of the galaxy (were they always here, slowly discovered deep within planets across the galaxy outside of typical invasions).

All kinds of events I can't even begin to list because there is like 20k years of history and lore, and I barely know any of it. The above is likely not totally accurate either, this is just from memory.
