Crux Terminatus on standard power armor
Seeing a full blown crux terminatus on the right pauldron of standard power armor looks and feels so wrong for me.

The only time you should see a crux terminatus on a right pauldron is on terminator armor, aside from that astartes who earned the crux terminatus would have smaller symbols of the crux hangging from their belts or weapons when they wear standard power armor.

Does anyone here thinks the same when looking at the crux terminatus pauldron cosmetic in the game? or is there some far off lore or book that would support the idea of having the crux used with standard power armor?

The crux is normally used to denote a 1st company veteran marine. First company is normally Terminator armour, but 1st company veterans are used as officers and can field power armour if they chose to.

True but they don't wear the crux terminatus on their shoulder pad, as I said when they wear power armor they have a symbol of the crux hanging on their armor/belt or weapons to denote that they have earned the crux.

there are official models with a crux terminatus on regular space marine armor though, like for example this vanguard veteran squad:

or here on a sternguard veteran:

1st Company also employed Power Armored Elites like Vanguard and Sternguard Veterans, at least pre-Primaris.

It used to be available as a purchasable (for points, in list building/the tabletop game) upgrade for back in the day, i remember it from 3rd edition but it was eventually dropped as an option and baked into the cost of veteran units that bear it.

In 3rd it cost 15 points and could be applied to any non named character that wasnt a veteran sgt or listed with terminator armour by default as the cost and stat bonus were already included.

Smaller representations of the Crux are frequently also worn by the Veterans who have earned it when they fight in standard power armour.

The Crux Terminatus is almost always worn on an Astartes' left shoulder plate, though it may also be worn on one knee plate (this is usually done only in combination with the shoulder plate, however). Only Veteran battle-brothers who have earned the Crux Terminatus are granted the specialised training required to wear Terminator Armour.

"Smaller representations of the Crux are frequently" -> not always.

"Veteran battle-brothers who have earned the Crux Terminatus are granted the specialised training required to wear Terminator Armour" -> so there are bearers of the crux that are not yet trained to wear tactical dreadnought armour, another reason why it is seen on power armour.

Check https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Crux_Terminatus for more on the lore side of things.
