You know what, it isnt even optimised just that bad
It's also very demanding off CPU and memory, and on the memory part there must be a leak cause aint no way a normal game eats 32 gb of ram. (or more)
Try these
Delete
%localappdata%\Saber\Space Marine 2\client\local_shader_cache
(copy & paste into Windows Explorer address bar)
then repair Steam Library and verify game files
Set pagefile to 64 GB
Set Nvidia Shader cache 100 GB
use ISLC (optional since you do not want a third party app)

Restart PC
Set game's task priority to high when running the game
Just so that you know, RAM is temporary memory, and the game takes a very long time to load both into the main game, in and out of missions. RAM in a lot of cases doesn't really effect much except for what the game can actively remember as you are playing, such as loading in and out areas and displaying tons of AI-less units (Those horde guys that approach do not have active AI until they scale the wall, meaning they're essentially just killable textures)
You're starting to see more and more games adopt 16 as the standard. But what that means is that games that are much more thoroughly developed and intensive tend to require double that, meaning 32 absolutely makes sense for Space Marine 2, as it does for games like Star Citizen.
Just keep in mind going forward that THESE types of games DO run comfortably at 32.
That's not to say that RAM is your bottleneck. By no means at all. The game does, indeed, have areas that are horrendously optimized but will likely get a QoL pass in the very near future. Almost everybody is universally experiencing random ♥♥♥♥-tanking in the main hangar area, which is a bad look for the game and its devs, meaning that stabilizing THAT at the very least will be #1 in their priorities over almost anything else.
Couple months ago there came pretty important microcode update and don't know if that helps with your game but at least it should make your CPU live longer.
When I wasn't forced to run EAC (mainly because I played with it bypassed due to WeMod, even if I didn't use the mods), this game ran beautifully. Zero crashes, much shorter load times, was able to play on max graphics with no issue...
Now, until either the people who made the WeMod bypass update the bypass file, or the devs either get rid of, or allow the game to be played online without EAC (with friends in Operations), this game will suffer many many maaaaany performance issues until then.
