Primaris Marines are better on paper, they are slightly bigger, stronger and more survivable but the difference isnt as big as some make it to be and Firstborn can kill Primaris just as easy. In fact an experienced Firstborn will kill a Primaris easily.

For hobby purposes Primaris are bigger so they offer better canvas but firstborn are generally more affordable and avaible in second hand market.

skill and experience is a null comparison since basically everyone has now passed the Rubicon Primaris, or Calgarisian Rites as they're also known. Primaris are bigger, stronger, faster, more resilient to wounds and chaos, plus have better gear.
Primaris Calgar would stomp First Born Calgar.
Primaris Dante would stomp First Born Dante.

How hard is it to become a Primaris anyway? Surely surviving 100 years of battle against Tyranids isn't the only way.

Primaris who started as Primaris will be superior in every way other than skill to a Firstborn, but not to a degree that gives a Firstborn zero chance, and usually the skill leads the Firstborn to victory. Primaris who started as Firstborn trample Primaris who started as Primaris and Firstborn

Literally wrong. For one, this comparison may be applied to Loyalist Primaris Vs Heretic Firstborn. What's null is your inane comparison to self. Yeah, you with a gun are superior to yourself without a gun. What amazing logic. The actual comparison is more nuanced. A 27 year old body builder may be bigger and stronger than a 45 year old special forces operator but a special forces operator knows 10 ways to kill the bodybuilder regardless of those advantages. Just one example out of many in the recent novels. In the Shroud of Night, Firstborn Alpha Legionnaires DEMOLISH Primaris Imperial Fists, because the former have been fighting for thousands of years while the latter are fresh noobs.
Primaris cost more so they're statistically better than Firsborn and they have access to Cawl's new toys while the oldheads are stuck with post-Heresy hand downs. Funnily Firstborn now fulfill a niche similar to Beastmen in Fantasy Chaos Armies, they're essentially chunky skirmishers with heavy weapons with access to cheap transports like Rhinos and Razorbacks whereas Primaris have to pay a premium to use their own bigger transports.

These arguments are hilarious because as far as I remember the original Primaris that Cawl made were veterans of the Great Crusade. They're as firstborn as you can possible get.

Firstborn were killed in swaths and named characters were basically immortal until they were set to uber-die.

Primaris are killed in swaths unless they're a firstborn post-rubicon. Named characters die spontaneously and off-book.

They are not.
Firstborns, or should I rather call them, space marines / adeptus astartes, are vastly superior to primaris marines / parimarysues / space marines-space marines / spartan marines for these very simple reasons :

- good lore
- history
- iconic designs
- grimdark gothic bling

While primaris, although aren't bad, are instead getting :

- mediocre lore (thankfully it's getting improved on)
- boring designs (except for bladeguard veterans, great boys they are)
- generic sci-fi boring looking gear and vehicles
- Phobos power armor and the fugly power shorts
- no beakies, no angry helmet

I'm more than happy to provide you with this perfectly objective comment which I'm sure will make a lot of people agree without any kind of verbal retaliation.

Literally just a surgery away for firstborn but it doesn't have a great success rate for them.
