As for melee animations - oh brother, I remember Melee animations in Skyrim and Cyberpunk, even mods to make them "more natural" its still not it
Although for the sake of close perspective and the ability to actually look at things - it would be nice, but only temporarily
Still, after playing RE Remakes and GTA4 in first person (mods) - I had enough of "funny" camera diving out of game bonds
It's not an option because devs would need to make a completely separate player model and animation set so that you could play in first person. If you just put a camera in the characters head it would behave extremely crazy when you swing the melee weapons (spinning around bobing up and down etc)
The ranged weapons shooting would be the only thing that could work nicely if it had a fps switch.
