I don't know how it's working for you. I'm also on 21:9 (3440x1440 to be precise).
Loaded into my first match and experienced the black rage once realizing it was a bunch of bull****, a band-aided fix by stretching and cutting off parts of the screen in weird ways, blowing up loading screens to fill the entire screen but then losing parts of the scene entirely due to this like what the ****
if it stretched on first boot, it's probably set to the wrong resolution. swapping resolution and or windowed/fullscreened usually fixed that kinda stuff.
deleting the settings file to to force the game to recheck your defaults can also help.

The UW FOV needs some work, but it shouldn't be "stretched".
The only condition in which that currently happens is if you try to use Dynamic Resolution.
