Currently playing through the campaign again with two friends and having a blast on veteran
If I can give any tips is to keep your healing as long as you can when you really need them. Also dont use them willy-nilly, they restore your "lives" when you get downed. So wait to get downed, get res, then heal, etc. Instead use you Q ability to heal up. Another tip is Krak grenades are pretty much instant kill for the elite mobs. Use them and then execute. Elite mobs is what gonna kill you for the most part on higher difficulties. So focus on them. A good combo is to use your ability and then go into an execute animation for invincibility frames and easy healing. And yeah, execute gives you invincibility frames.
Its honestly a blast to play the game on higher difficulties.
I was able to beat 3 campaign missions solo on veteran but it required a lot of retries and I had to do essentially everything myself with near perfect execution. It feels like that difficulty is intended to be played with 2 other people. I found it very unforgiving solo.
Having turned it down to normal the game feels much better imo.
Turned down to normal and realised i was super close to beat that...
Still its annoying to play that way. What a stupid choice to not let random people join you on campaign... not only you are unlikely to be free with your friends at the same time but they may be on different points of progression.
The first really major spot I'd say is the Lictor boss fight. They just entirely check out there. Barely shoot, completely forget that they have melee (which they overused with a chase enemy habit up to that point), and its clearly ends up a 1 on 1 of you versus Lictor.
You then follow that with the Ripper filled area, that encourages to use the flamer, while your bot teamates randomly shoot into the rippers, don't focus on the larger enemies, or stay with you (chase way too much there).
Its right about that point I feel, most people will begin to curse the bots as completely useless and realize that they are only good for a slight distraction or occasional revive. There are parts where they do better (the jump pack parts for example, where that aggressive AI works well), but there are a lot of times your wondering what the hell the bot is doing, or why its so far away, while other times they are right there but don't seem to really be doing anything.
I'd say operations can be even worse with bots. It seems to me as if all the bots have pretty much the same AI, regardless of chosen class. I noticed this when I saw a bot sniper getting way too aggressive chasing in melee, and not really utilizing the rifle. Then it dawned on me its all the same, use range until engaged in melee, then melee until clear, just really basic see it, shoot it, melee if close AI. No target priority other than spotting specials (and pretty much just spotting, they tend to ignore after that).
yeah i'm 99% sure i can beat it on veteran, but i'm gonna keep doing normal cos its just not fun that the mighty space marines with me are usless dorks... its not just the bots that make veteran feel meh... i was expecting bigger maybe smarter enemies or something more than stupid hp/damage difference between difficulty levels.
So i'm just gonna do normal for the story and then see how coop works and if its actually worth spending more time on that... otherwise i have aliens fireteam that is still a blast to play. Imo devs would benefit if they took few ideas from them.
The only thing they are good at is reving you and melleing thing that are face hugging them and don't expect them to shoot much of anything like 50feet out.
I would say no. This game is not easy.
