Losing a Gene-Seed for going down is insane
It really ought to be on death, not on downed-state

I agree, it doesn't make sense for the gene seed to disappear, it would be even better if even on death, the gene seed drops at your location instead of completely disappears

Absolutely stupid mechanic that needs to be patched or fixed. No reason to lose an item you pick up if someone goes down on the team with it.

Really like the drop on death mechanic. I feel like that would be cool to work with.

Yeah, if it was drop on death, it would mean you wouldn't have to be so cautious when carrying gene-seed.

The whole thing is its a huge boost for a huge challenge, an essentially guaranteed exp boost of that magnitude is kinda crazy just git gud

Gene seed should be dropped on death so another character can pick it up. There is no reason for it to disappear. Even in GW's own fiction, for example the animated series with the necrons, they are not easily destroyed. When the Ultramarine apothecary goes down, he hands off the Gene-seed to Sakaan, the Salamander hero, who recovers it.

Sure thing. A single screw up due to RNG and network based dodge/parry on a 20-30 minute ruthless operation is unreasonable. You're the type of person that almost ran Helldivers 2 into the ground.

So you made a mistake and missed a parry and dont want to be punished on the hardest difficulty? LOL
Get better.

It's just some extra xp, its pretty simple really, the player who gets it gets the med kits and is protected, if it were on death.... Well people don't fully due that often, especially if thry are being actively guarded.

It is supposed to be high risk high reward. If anything, the enemy should more actively pursue the carrier.

There's a difference between fair and unfair punishment.
Complete loss of Gene-seed when being incapacitated is not good design.

considering bulwark full heals and heavy full heal on revive as long as the carrier has a single stim on the hardest diff, it was dropped on death it'd be laughably easy to get. its just a skill issue, the gene seed rewards good players, and good players can still slip up, its not meant to be a done deal easy peasy thing to secure each time you find it
