The parry system is so finicky feeling it annoys me
I wish armor could take just a LITTLE more damage before losing a pip, gaining a pip only to instantly lose it is so damn frustrating with the sheer lack of healing in the game. Melee, other than the chaff feels so weak, raveners just give absolutely no ♥♥♥♥♥ about anything and just attack endlessly while you get pelted by everything else around.

Yup

Pure jank

Devs were trying to reinvent the parry system but instead broke it

Parry works fine for me, unless playing bulwurk. Then its weird AF.
barneytheknight Sep 9, 2024 @ 4:07pm
parry system is fine, you are propably just using melee weapon with "block" defence which cannot parry :D balance can somewhat and fencing has biggest parry windows, its a shame that this very important thing is poorly explained in game

Feels fine for me, got 30 hours in the game though so maybe used to it. It only 'feels jank' if playing bulwurk or im in getting stunlocked for a lil bit and cant parry or dodge out of it.

Its bearable on lower difficulties but once you start operations at above level 2 literally any hit, and i mean ANY HIT from even trash mobs takes an entire armor bar away. Its actually insane.

Yeah I'm playing on the 2nd to last difficulty, armor is paper.

This game does a terrible job at explaining itself. I am four hours in an still have absolutely no idea how the parry system works. Half the time it seems to do nothing, if I fight more than one enemy all it does is lock me in an animation for long enough that the second enemy is able to hit me and stunlock me into the next six hits. Every encounter spent in melee I just cannot understand what it is that the game actually wants from me. It's incredibly frustrating.

Couldn't agree more. I have absolutely no idea what's going on. Sometimes I die sometimes I don't. I empty a couple or three entire magazines into a single Tyranid soldiers and maybe they die, maybe it needs a forth magazine and that's me more or less me out of ammo, There's another four or five Tyranids in the same swarm and many little ones - and melee? What's going on with Melee? No one knows... There's parry which.... Erm? What does it do? Sometimes it does nothing - sometimes it does a cool kill animation - but against the bigger Tyranids it doesn't seem to do anything. The Shield block still seems to mean you take damage... err ok. The Tyranids that block don't take damage. And then the floaty ones turn up and they have invulnerability shields and two shot you and you can't hide. So...

The game is kinda bad? Coming from Dark Tide... This sucks.

For those having trouble parrying play vanguard, take a fencing weapon, and take the +50% parry window perk. That will help you to get a feel for the timing. Once you feel comfortable with that you can start branching out. You can also parry any attack except the ones with the orange circle indicator. You don't need the blue circle to be able to parry. Watch the enemy animations and learn their timing. Also you can no longer blind parry from directly behind. If you get good with parrying with fencing weapons give balance a try. The aoe stagger is larger than what happens with fencing and if surrounded by lots of enemies it can be a life saver.
If you plan on playing harder difficulty levels parrying is essential. Lots of good things can happen from parrying too. Assault can get extra armor back from parry/gunstrikes that don't kill a target. Some classes like vanguard can get damage reductions off of parrying.
Block weapons I would stay away from until you are much more comfortable with the game.

First don't empty clips into tyranid soldiers. The ones with the double swords are more resistant to ranged damage. Headshot if you can and close to melee with them. Ranged tyranids are weaker to range. Also as a rule of thumb for shooting - headshots are big in this game. Parry is timing. You don't have to wait for the blue circles to be able to parry an attack. Any melee attack, except ones with orange circles, can be parried. Use a fencing weapon which has a larger parry window than balance. Block weapons you can'tt parry only block incoming attacks.
I had over 1,000hrs in darktide before I started playing this game. Darktide is a very familiar system done 100 times over in many games. Darktide does it super super well but at its core it is like other first person shooter games. This game has its own mechanics and systems and can be punishing if you don't know them and if you do learn them can turn you into a walking death machine.

Parry is working great.

People were simply upset at themselves for being unable to parry at all after the devs broke the fencing weapons they had been crutching on.

Fortunately the devs fixed it so those people can play again.

The biggest issue for players coming from Dark Souls and Elden Ring is that you don't parry just before the hit. Your character needs to get his arm into position, so you have to get used to pressing it sooner.

Also there are two different kinds of parries: Normal parry (timing slightly off) and perfect parry. The former will only block the main target but not interrupt it or other enemies. The latter will stagger everything in a small radius. But enemies outside of that can still hit you (e.g. whip attack).

parry small mob attacks and you get sheilds melee enough you get a stumble 1 shot kill that can also restore a sheild

I do not get nerfing or removing anything from pve game mode; Direction based parry, sounds great for when your in pvp for pvp I do not mind that at all. In Pve there are hordes that can and will swarm you and then you can get staggered or stunlocked into lethal damage. Combat felt smoother, better with patch 4.5 other then the dodge messing up the combat did feel better and smoother. The balance weapons too me feels more like the fencing used to be. Block I am not sure what to make of it I like it? Maybe.
