Uh, the melee combat is bad.
Decades of freeflow combat to reference and the devs still couldn't figure out how to make smooth horde melee combat? You can't cancel anims to parry?

Are we space marines or not?

The combat does need tweaking don't listen to all these people there's more posts criticizing it than praising it for sure.
Skill Issue
Yeah, just felt super clunky and unsatisfying. Glad it's clicking for some folks but I just found it unintuitive and unpleasant. Feels bad requesting a refund for a game I was so excited for but here we are; got better things to do with my time than try to find the fun in something I'm not enjoying.

It does take some level of skill to make a less clunky system in a game. Seems many posters agree there is a skill issue.
Feel like parry and melee system needs more love.

So, we can not compare with Gears of War because of you say this is focused on melee, ok, I buy your argument.
Then, a melee based on a one button system, what could go wrong?

i like the combat but there arent much options to flow well when youre in the thick of it, especially on the higher difficulties
i couldnt imagine how bad it wouidve been if they decided not to delay it for one more year and i think you'd be crazy to deny that

Legit the person who made the character combat felt like they were at odds with the enemy designer, most of the major and above enemies are heavily telegraphed meaning they're literally piss easy to deal with but if you dare to engage a small pack of gaunts in melee, god forbid if theres a line of ranged units in the background you're going to leave the fight with half hp, you're required to block even the fodder enemies constantly, which means getting stuck in the psudo parry animation nonstop.

Or you're going to spend the time putting them in gunstrike range which feels ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful from a flow perspective aswell constantly hardlocked into glorykill animations, it's such sludge to play.

So you just play a dedicated ranged character and the game is piss easy again, swapped from a level 25 bulwark and assault to a level 3 heavy or a scout with just green quality weapons and it's like activating easymode that you can still hardcarry diff4 games, the only thing keeping bulwark afloat is the cheesy contested hp flag interaction.

Oh and the fact the game doesn't even have an incentive for combat so people are just rushing checkpoints, the only combat orientated checkpoint the game has is killing terminus level enemies because they drop a second armory data for the level, otherwise fighting enemies nets 0 experience or mastery.

foundation is there but the pve stuff needed like another few months or some serious design cohesion.

also my darktide reject could solo half of the classes in space marine 2 with how much damage even baby lasgun cultists can do to you.

This happens every time. Every time developers refuse to let players play with their brain turned off, a lot of people get mad. They just want to get into that reflex-driven flow-zone and win. Well, as an older man who's just not that quick anymore, I think it's hilarious. I struggle through a lot of games these days but this game was one of the easiest I've played in a long time because it slows things down for me. Sorry kids, you're gonna have to start actually planning and strategizing.
Yeah, melee feels kind of clunky. It's not terrible, and I think there's probably a learning curve that will make the combat feel better once we're over it, but we've definitely seen better melee combat systems in video games over the last decade or so.

so its not just me melee feels really off for some reason, and tbh sm1 felt much smoother
