Is this game's "co-op" invite only?
Just wondering because I had the idea that multiplayer games were also public or am I wrong with this case?

Multiplayer co op can be played with randoms

So am I forced to play the campaign first in order to "unlock" multiplayer?

Because I wasn't able to find the feature to join randoms.

After you complete the tutorial, by completing the first campaign mission, you can go straight to multiplayer. There is a terminal you can select, where you can choose operations, then you can "unlock" a specific operations after it warns you about spoilers. But it's just a simple click and confirm.

I was not able to find nor make public servers either so it seems that way. Pretty dumb especially nowadays.

Just to be sure, so it means if I don't have friends (on steam) that owns the game, I can't invite people I've played with in multiplayer to play the campaign with me?

You are not forced. the game recommends playing the campaign first but you dont have to.
Multiplayer is unlocked after the prologue mission but you can skip that aswell

You dont need to play the campaign, you can jump straight into PVP or Operations (which is the Co-op missions)

A lot of people do a few campaign missions then jump on coop and do some there

after the tutorial you are introduced to a terminal where you can choose game modes

The operations and campaign are tied into each other. Shortly after starting you get a computer to interact with that lets you switch between campaign, operations and PVP. The worst that happens if you do operations out of order is some campaign spoilers but once you have that computer you can do whatever.

I haven't seen this answered yet: Once you unlock Co-Op, can you co-op with randoms or do you have to invite specific friends? How does this work? :GoldenT:

You can make your own Squad with friends or simply join other people. If you only play with one friend your team will automatically get a random person to join as soon as someone is looking for that specific operation. At the moment you cant make a private lobby only for friends or solo play.

Thank you for the answer! I have no problem playing with randoms so this is good. Some people hate it but I find it charming. It works very well on games like Remnant 2, for example., or the original Dead Island. Does progress carry over? Can you complete a co-op campaign over several sessions with various randoms? :gwent_teamtriss:

Where is this multiplayer terminal you all are talking about? Like, where is it on the boarding bridge or hub... I can not figure out where this thing is.
