Yeah I'm currently trying to figure that out, it's just fishy because it's installed in my OS windows folder :/

I don't have exact answer but it installs with Epic Online Services so I'd assume it's related to crossplay. Certs in IT are generally used to secure and validate traffic from one machine to another. I will uninstall it and let you know if the game still works. I kicked EOS and it worked so should be good here.

EDIT: seems to work without it. Certs are probably already installed in the local cert store although I don't see anything. There is nothing to worry about.

what the ♥♥♥♥ is that?! First it installs EOS without any warning before hand (dont say anything about third party programms on the store page) and then whatever this is aswell? Holy Heck man that is was i would call its beheaving like malware.

Who the hell knows. It could very well be a Spyware/Malware. The only thing I know is, it was installed on the system without permission

It's middleware to allow you to connect to EOS - epic online services.

Came here to figure out how it was installed in the first place and now I'm OK with it. Windows have a really poor backend for SSL layer of networking stack. It's a known issue for any Python program that you want to run on windows and that is supposed to make HTTPS requests. So what most of devs do they just don't rely on WIndows SSL implementation but use their own. And that's what this cert updater is. So I'm not worried about that anymore and so should be you.
