Single player difficulty
I am still considering getting the game but not decided. I saw that the dev's describe the Veteran difficulty (the hard mode) as the intended experience. I usually always choose the dev intended difficulty. Thing is, the game looks to be very co-op focused, and in single player you still have AI. Just wondering if the hard mode is the intended experience "for co-op" or is it find for those playing alone.
PS: I have no friends to play with.

You can play on Veteran solo; I’ve completed it that way. But be prepared for the ranged Tyranids to make you lose the will to live

play on normal... unless playing with 2 other real players.

The AI WILL NOT be able to help you on anything higher than normal, they are so useless.

There's 3 modes, the campaign can be done solo on normal difficulty. You'll struggle on veteran or higher. One mode is a PvP mode, so it requires non-solo play, and the third is operations. Operations can be done solo, but frankly I'm not sure why anyone would. It's just a boring grind without other players to liven it up.

Yep that's what I was worried about.

Even if its doable I hate frustrating ♥♥♥♥ that makes me lose the will to live. Same reason I don't play Halo on heroic, even if that's the "canonical difficulty", ♥♥♥♥ jackels.

I'm playing solo on vet with zero spacemarine exp and its not hard at all. Learn the combos. I go down my AI teammates pick me up. It honestly seems impossible as of yet too fail. Also the game plays 10x better on a controller, kbm is carpal tunnel city.

played on vet with ai and yes the ai make it challenging by being trash but that just leaves more glory for you, this preps you for the craziness that happens in the multiplayer

Take 2nd difficulty for a comfortable but still challenging playthrough.
3 if you want to sweat.
Do not take the 4th without a human partner.

My primary decision making factor in difficulty selection is: Not too easy. But usually the "intended experience" tag on a difficulty trumps that I have to say...

On Angels of Death the friendly AI can be pretty useless. Parrying is hit or miss, so I dodge most of the time to avoid attacks. It's difficult, but not Elden Ring difficult. I'm personally stuck on the Machinus mission due to the cargo lift being bugged. Stims and ammo disappear or can't be picked up, Tyranids shooting through boxes, etc.

Edit: I'm using an xbox controller for this game

I prefer to avoid frustration. A game can be easier than Elden Ring and more frustrating. I adored the difficulty of Shadow of the Erdtree, solo'd the whole thing.

Veteran is mostly okay if you are not new to third person shooters. The only problem is useless AI in defense objectives.

Same exact problem, started 3 days ago and is still there. couldn't interact with any weps, grenades, stimms and the ammo boxes disappeared.

I'd say play on normal, that will let you experiment with all the weapons you find.
