Heavy Bolter CRAP in operations...
Compared to Melta, its crap, utterly useless imo, it has too little ammo, takes forever to kill a chaos space marine or terminator, leaves you vulnreble while firing unlike shoot roll shoot with melta, its just utterly f useless, what the hell is its purpose? its weaker than a 10th edition lasgun.

I mainly use it for trash mobs, and to set up elites for executions for my teammates.

Weapon balance is meh in general, no point taking anything but melta

Use Plasma Pistol for larger targets, use Heavy Bolter for swarms. However, it shines much more brightly with perks and upgrades. Bare-bones, the Heavy Bolter is just a rapid-fire Bolter with a massive singular magazine that overheats. With perks it'll cut through crowds and can melt larger threats (remember to aim at the head, which seems to increase damage by roughly FOUR TIMES as much).

I always aim at head when possible, but its like theres no feedback or different hit markers for hitting weak point sor heads? i sometimes see a red one? but thats not even when hitting in head most of time. and isnt an upgrade plasma/melta just even better?

First, Melta has obvious range issues and limited ammo (perks help that, though). Heavy Bolter has great range and can easily clear mobs of bugs. Not the best weapon for Chaos, however. As for the hit-reg, the normal one is like 4 white lines, and the 'Headshot' version is like 8 lines (they double-up in each corner). Getting a normal kill is also 4 red lines, whereas a headshot kill is 8 red lines. All of this is in the shape of an 'X' around your crosshair.

Everything vs Melta is crap because Melta is OP right now
If you compare everything to that than of course everything else is supbar but you are comparing it to a weapon that is currently considered cheese

Um red is a kill or stun (set up execution shot).

A double cross or # instead of a normal + is indicative of a headshot, and a simple + hash is a normal hit.

Seemed pretty obvious to me after not very much play.

Is this the helldivers two dev mentality? Melta is good and everything else is weak and crap, so lets nerf the good and make the crap crapper lol...

Hmm is it a warrior with blades or a tzagnor with shield, are they holding it up, and are you seeing a shield hit indicator? If that is the case, they are blocking the shots.

And again red is indication of a kill or mortal wound, not headshots. A double cross more similar to a # is the indication of a headshot.
