Mastery Point Bugs on Weapons
So guys, it seems like if you use the green, purple , or orange stuff you earn from completed operations to upgrade the mastery of a weapon, you get the perk BUT your mastery progress bar for that weapon doesn't work. I did this with plasma gun and power sword, now mastery bar doesn't progress, so I can't unlock the next tier of weapons.

I did this by accident and yeah; can no longer gain XP for the weapon, so I can't upgrade it.

Seems like we need to wait for a patch progress further in a weapon, I was thinking I missed something

You don't need the weapons mastery bar to progress to get xp for the weapon.

Are you sure you are not gaining xp for the weapon?

You still earn experience for the overall mastery (as long as you use the weapon in missions)
Just the end screen wont tell you how much (which is.. weird) and the path from green to purple is ~6000 compared to grey to green which is only 1500 so obviously its way slower, so earning a little exp might come of as "nothing"

You get weapon mastery depending on how long in the mission you used it for, so if you used it for the entire mission you get the same amount of EXP as you would normally, aka if you get 900 EXP for your class, you get 900 EXP for your mastery
But if you switch that weapon off for something else, then you only get x% of the exp (changes from map to map as not all weapon switch points are the same length away in missions)
So (just an example, actual values might differ) if you start with gun 1, switch to gun 2 and then switch again to gun 3 you get 33% of the missions exp on all three guns, so with a mission giving 900 exp, you get only 300 exp each (still a total of 900)

Which means to get from green to purple on just 900exp missions, doing that would take a whole 20 missions for you to get through that process (300x20 = 6000)
Ofc in reality that could be way more/less on a mission to mission basis plus your winrate, do keep that in mind

The only time the weapon stops earning mastery exp is when it can be upgraded to the next tier (aka green, purple or gold) until it is upgraded to that tier, once it is upgraded it doesnt matter if you do use a gun of that tier or not, you still earn EXP like explained

Just check the section on the left above the mastery exp line where it tells you how much exp it has, make a screenshot of that, run a mission and compare the screenshot to it (I had all my weapons mastered at the very beginning and still got exp to get to the green tier)
If it says the exact same number while you used that weapon, then yes you found a bug
If it says a different number, then now you know how it works

Hope this helped to explain how exp works, do keep in mind that I can still be wrong about things as this is simply what I observed and tested

No it is bugged. It doesn't give you exp at all.

Is your weapon XP going up? Not the Mastery XP

Now let's think like this. Let's say we talk about plasma gun, green tier. I bought the full mastery for green plasma guns for 3 Green upgrade parts. I got 3 perks as a result, but the problem is the below part; which shows the main mastery level of plasma gun. If I earnt plasma weapon xp through mission, I would be able to unlock purple tier. Now, because I used green upgrade parts to buy the mastery, the bar below doesn't progress. 3 plasma guns are fully upgraded as mastery, the bar below should have also reached purple tier. This is a bug I guess, so don't use upgrade parts to ugrade your mastery.

I just got out of the mission and to anyone who is afraid of this topic. Don't be it's just fake news or it's a very specific weapon.

No it applies to all weapons that you use Armory Data to level up.
Maou Sep 10, 2024 @ 2:49am
I will correct myself and say that I have verified that you actually do get EXP on the "bugged" weapons. The game doesn't tell you that you get EXP, but you do.

Ive had no issues with exp by skipping the mastery with armoury data.
