how to pick a perk from the skill tree when its unlocked?

i unlocked the first 3 perks on my tree but i dont know if they are all just active for now or how to choose 1 of them, i have unlocked left to right, so the first 3 cannot be picked between

if you're level two, you just uinlocked the first one

so do you unlock 1 for each row and then the second tier you have to choose between? because the top row have all been unlocked but i cant choose between them

Each column is its own active perk.

You only choose between them when you start unlocking the next one in the column at level 10 and 18.

Because you can only choose one trait per column.

Because the choices don't happen until you hit level 10 and 18.

If you've unlocked them, they're active until you unlock the next one in the column, then you can choose between the ones you've unlocked in that column as only one of them can be active.
