Over heating CPU
is there anything i can do to fix this? my cpu is 5800x3d so its no slouch but why on earth does this game make it shoot to over 90 degrees Celcius when nothing else does? ive tried turning down cloth physics and shadows to lower my cpu use but it still skyrockets to 90 or more on just the title screen

UPDATE:
Switching Max fps to 60 pretty much solved the issue

UPDATE 2:
did not solve issue left game in active gameplay and CPU got to 85 went ahead and killed the game to prevent overheat. changing settings didnt help unfortunately. gonna wait for patch before i play
UPDATE 3:
Turns out my PC power control had my CPU performance boost set to AGGRESSIVE and by simply turning it off my cpu sits at 52 degrees in game
FINAL UPDATE:
My issue is resovled. my pc only had a heat issue once and since trying all of the work arounds my power boost setting being set to AGGRESSIVE and is now off has fixed my issue for the game completely. im at 120 fps max settings and my heat ranges is 54-60. Todays update may have had something to do with it or me switching the game to my M.2 storage and changing my span speed and power boost could have fixed it. ive been playing for close to 3 hours with no issue and even left the game running to go take a shower and still no issues. If youre having heat issues check to see if you power boost is on or set to a weird setting, double check your thermal paste and fan speeds, and check to your CPU usage if its low but your cpu is hot its likely the game still causing issues

If you are having high CPU temps and want a temp fix until a hopeful patch you can disable "Performance Boost Mode" in "Edit Power Plan"

Performance Boost Mode is a hidden option that you can unhide by copying this line into PowerShell

powercfg /attributes SUB_PROCESSOR PERFBOOSTMODE -ATTRIB_HIDE

Once you activate that in PowerShell you can then go to Edit Power Plan (just type it in the windows search bar)

Change advanced power settings

Processor power management

Processor performance boost mode

Disable

This will impact the performance of the game (I went from 120+fps to 60s) But will drastically reduce the CPU temp when in game. (I went from 90c+ to mid 40s)

Once you're done playing or you want to switch games you can easily return the Performance Boost Mode back to what it was.

I have an i9-13900k and this is the only game with this issue for me.

True.
It's also boosting my 4090, running at max GPU clock, even on DLSS Ultra Performance @ 60 fps.

At the same time, I cannot say the game is badly optimized: unlocking framerate gives some impressive numbers. Which I don't need. What I need is lower temps at 4k@60.

It's not even that it's poorly optimized. It honestly isn't. It's just one singular issue that the game's asking for 100% performance boost constantly. The devs will fix it. It probably was a bug or an oversight.

where do i find this ?

there's a fix that works well. Turn off performance boost for cpu in control panel > power settings. You might have to go into powershell to enter a command to actually have it show you that setting. Google the fix, it's there and it works. You'll lose a tiny bit of performance but it's still more than acceptable in the meantime. On a 5800x3D and 4080 super. I haven't gone over 61C since trying the fix. I was at a steady 90 until I did the fix.

I would imagine after hundreds of people reporting issues, it would be obvious its the game

Its a combination of the game and your system config.

The game is at fault for requesting maximum overclock from the CPU and the system config is at fault for allowing it to push the absolute maximum with no regard for temperature.

The solution is to disable the auto overclock in the CPU power settings.
Game will stop requesting the overclock and the temps go down to normal ranges.

Its a double sided flaw, The game shouldnt be requesting that much power and windows shouldnt be obliging to the point of maxing out the temps without even a word of warning to the user.
The worst part is, the only ones who will even notice a problem are the ones who use monitoring software. Regular players who have the same problem likely wont even notice.

what i missed was the game literally advertises AMD in the opening slides and my entirely AMD rig and AMD processor is having trouble with just the cpu overheating. its very clearly an issue with SOMETHING that they hopefully fix because I REALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS

Then you guys got a cooler problem, i have an aio on my amd ryzen 78003dx with max settings, i got temps about 76° Celsius without capping the fps.

Hey. In the next topic, I found an overload of one of my cores. But its 13900k.

what part of "i have proper cooling and this is the only game that causes this" did you miss?
DS1404 Sep 8, 2024 @ 8:58am
As a fellow 5800x3d owner I've also noticed this game run a bit warmer than other games I have at least when booting up. When booting it gets to around 78 max for a bit but during general play it hovers around 58-61 degrees. Locked the FPS to 90.

The game is more taxing it seems and/or makes CPU's run overtime but I'm lucky with the conditions of my room+cooling setup of the pc. I do wonder what'll happen if I unlock the fps haha. But because of it dropping to 83-85 sometimes I just locked it at 90 so the frametime hit wouldnt be noticeable.

That menu screen cpu usage is out of control though dayum.

This is not a cooler problem, its a game engine design problem.

then maybe you dont have a proper cooling? i had this issue too on other games, what i did i changed my complete cooling system and case. Problem solved. And if other games dont use your cpu for 100% then its normal that other games may run smoothly for you. (temp wise)

If the CPU overheats to the point it's throttling, it's a cooling problem 100% of the time. That means the system was never stress tested properly to begin with. Install some Cinebench or something and see how high the temperature gets there.

been playing Wonderlands for 3 hours straight now and my cpu is only at 58 degrees. as soon as i boot warhammer it skyrockets to 75-79 at the menu, in game it shoots up to 85 and i pull the plug there. ive never had ANY game on my pc ever go over 75 degrees at 120. i drop warhammer to 60 and lowered the specs and it still overheats. idk why people continue to blame cooling when in 10 minutes my cpu is overheating. thats unreasonable
Badman Sep 8, 2024 @ 9:02am
Only in this game is the temp so high. (even in the menu)
I hope a patch will fix this.
