Lets talk Assault
So, let me set the ground for the inevitable "get good" people that will come around:

I have all operations but one max difficulty completed but the last which is 3/4. I have tactical, bulwark and heavy at lvl 25 and vanguard at level 18. I have mastered the tactical grenade launcher which gives me more damage output and kills than melta heavy. I can almost solo any 4/4 in the game (thats not a compliment bots are actually broken).

Said that, wtf is wrong with assault? Any lvl 25 assault here to give some insight, is it going to feel always like that? Like your hammer is made of rubber? More often than not youre running for your life and youre absolutely useless on your own, unlike any of the other classes I mentioned, bulwark can solo almost anything or parry to oblivion, heavy can solo everything as long as it is a munitions crate nearby, tactical same as heavy, vanguard can troll run and jump and dodge... assault its just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dummy with a cooldown.

For refference, impacts/shots needed to bring a regular elite to exec with tier 3 weapons in 3/4 diff:
Tactical: 1 and a half granades from granade launcher (WITH STUN)
Heavy: 4-5 melta shots (WITH STUN)
Assault: 10-12 light hammer swings (WITHOUT STUN) or 6-7 heavy strikes (WITH STUN TO YOU BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE GOING TO LAND SOLO A HEAVY STRIKE INTO 3 OR 4 ELITES).

Do melee classes need a tune up in general? I mean I didnt notice with the bulwark or the vaguard because they at least have survibability to wait for teammates to catch up. Or is it only an assault thing?

the thunder hammer doesnt seem like a good weapon imo

im only level 10 in assault and havent played past average but even then the hammer feels like ♥♥♥♥, using the chainsword has gotten me significantly better results when it comes to individual survivability and possible damage

ive consistently gotten the most kills and melee damage per match in minimal/average and really only get incapacitated when i have a brainfart and play like a dumbass

idk how itd go past average as of rn though

edit: did a few rounds of substantial and yeah assault just sucks, the class needs some way to reliably gain health like the zeal perk in sm1 otherwise theyre just utterly useless

assault just sucks.

not sure what the role of the class is since every single other class can do what they do but better.

need to take out a majoris? sniper, tactical, heavy.

need to take out multiple majoris? sniper, tactical, heavy.

need to take out a HVT very quickly? vanguard.

need to be a frontline? bulwark, heavy.

need to take out a clump of enemies? use a grenade.

need to jump up high in the air, which sometimes doesn't even work correctly, expose yourself to enemy fire, lose all your armor almost immediately, take significant health damage, then get meleed out of the air because some grunt whos 20 feet below melee attack somehow connects, then take a bunch of chip damage, and then repeat the same process again? choose assault.

the class is very buggy. weapon selection is super lackluster. the focus on armor is laughable since 1 bullet takes away half a bar.

melee tends to do pretty poorly, this is very evident considering that even when playing a melee class you end up doing 50%+ of combat at range on higher difficulties because of the damage thats going around.

assault is melee and has just next to nothing to make up for it.

the powerfist is very very bad. the thunder hammer is decent and the chainsaw sword is good.

Haven't played above 2nd difficulty with Assault, but I've gotten quite used to it and love it. The damage output is insane. You also have to play smart. Jumping into the middle of enemies in a wide open space is not usually a great idea...

If you can corner camp and just charge up each strike, waves topple in no time.
