Significance of the mini-casket with bones Titus wears?
I was wondering: does anyone know the significance of the little mini-casket of bones Titus wears as a charm on his belt? I'm a pretty serious W40k nerd and don't recognize it.

Yeah, it's this.

The Death Korps are also pretty well known to carry these but they're really common with Battle Sisters and Space Marines.

Trinkets, magical if you wanna think of it that way, like our version of a rabbits foot keyring.

Yeah, sorry to all who replied: I should have been more specific. I'm aware that the little mini-casket is a tiny reliquary (ossuary perhaps if I remember the distinction?). What I wonder is whether we know whose bones they are. I like the suggestion they might belong to Sidonus. And thanks so much for answering! I didn't know if I'd get any response. If anyone ever figures out precisely whose they are, I'd be curious.

Because it looks cool.

they were likely added as a little nod to 40k fans/nerds and because they look cool rather than for a specific lore reason

if there is a lore reason then the only rational answers would be that theyre either Sidonus' bones or the bones of someone he became close to during his century in the deathwatch

Due to his arrest after space marine 1, i doubt it would be Sidonus

valid, which is why it could potentially be a battle brother from the deathwatch

maybe the chaplain gave it to him after he rejoined the ultramarines? its quite a stretch but i think its possible seeing as the chaplain is who he is revealed to be at the end of the game

Might even be his team from the opening, as i doubt those bodies were just left there.

Speculating lore tidbits is rather fun imo.

it could be, though at least personally i didnt get the impression he cared about them *that* much

either way theres three possible options for whos bones it is: sidonus, unnamed deathwatch buddy, or a member of/all of his squad in the prologue

Those bones look like human long bones, but far too small for an Astartes.

youre forgetting the possibility that they were cut to be a manageable size while hanging off of armor

They don't look cut at all. They look like humeral bones, and their proportions seem accurate to humans. Their width and length don't fit Astartes.

Exactly what I thought when I saw them! I had a few of the thoughts expressed by others in this thread, though I confess I had forgotten Sidonus' arrest--hat tip to zmanbuilder for jogging that memory. Everything in this game feels so very deliberate and carefully chosen to tell environmental stories, I can't help but feel like there's significance to those bones.
