You don't need to count, you can just see how long do you have.
The GTA series has long recorded player stats, and I've always thought it was interesting to go in to see just how many people I've murdered, how many miles I've driven, most used vehicle, favorite radio station, etc.
I don't know why you all assume it's for competitive purposes.. aside from the obvious fact that Steam discussions users are the saltiest people on earth for no apparent reason.
Step Two: After every kill, or whatever metric you wish have stats of, make a note in excel.
Step Three: Realize that there are more important things than being able to engage in a ♥♥♥♥ measuring contest with people you don't know who happen to share the same hobby as you.
