Helldivers 2 Simply Did it better.
Helldivers 2 Did it better.
Cancel me or hate me, I don't care.

Just because you use Games Workshop intellectual property doesn't mean the game will be GOOD

The movement feels cheap, there's no character physics, it's just wrapped in fancy graphics without any satisfactory gameplay.

In Helldivers 2 the movement is physics based, you feel heavy and like you're carrying armor and rifles, you can trip, you get effected by alien gibs and gore, you get covered in blood and can implode if something flies at you quickly.

In Space Marines 2, there's no physics, the movement is instant and you don't feel like you're carrying tonnes of armor, your character has no weight, you should be physically cable of just stomping over the smaller units with your weight alone. It feels like a Indie Studio game that was quickly made in Unreal Engine with Warhammer models slapped onto it without any further though.

I understand that there's hype due to the Games Workshop IP being used, Warhammer 40K is popular but don't let that blind you from the lack of features and gameplay polish that this game offers, Your weapons don't do damage, they barely have armor, the gameplay loop is just running and searching for a medkit half the time you play and searching for ammo instead of killing hordes of enemies, even in Helldivers 2 you could call in supply drops to have your ammo and health replenished mid combat (and even use the supply drop to kill the enemies)

This is a bad excuse and a bad use of the warhammers ip.

ALSO!

The Optimisation struggles quite a lot too, especially if you change anti-aliasing settings.

I agree with this, the gameplay seems to lack any depth and seems like a DLC moneygrab for the fans, it does a disservice to the warhammer franchise.

Really can't compare the two given the design metrics and storytelling arch. There's plenty of environmental design elements that express the weight of Space Marines. Such as walking right through items, destroying stone structures etc.

This game feels no different, Lost Planet did this sort of gameplay and they did it better
https://store.steampowered.com/app/45750/Lost_Planet_2/
  1. Game Feels Cheaply Made, Through the movement and gameplay alone, Alien enemies bleed the same blood as humans (red), generic swarms with repetitive animations and no collision.
  2. Weapons are just recycled copies with 0 impact on gameplay other than attachments, which could of been had its own feature instead of giving us 4 rifles with same stats and different attachments.
  3. Paid DLC - Halo Level tier where you pay real money to have a different color scheme.

Helldivers 2 feels like it should, it's across dynamic planets which look and feel great, you're not raiding random non-lore friendly bases because a random character didn't want to abandon 'data'. The whole game feels like a even smaller studio was paid to make it, and now the current developers are earning money from it

The moment I watched a heavy bolter not blow off a limb when targeting it, was the moment I shook my head. Yet in HD2, you can do exactly like Carl said in Starship troopers "But you can remove a limb and the arachnid is still 90% combat effective." it feels good to take apart your enemies and still have to worry lol.
Crokodavr Sep 7, 2024 @ 11:28am
I agree, Helldivers 2 is done better in terms of gameplay. Even one simple mechanic of landing in a capsule on the heads of enemies is more fun than all these jumps on a jetpack from the story campaign.

Funny cause helldivers 2 is about as fun as watching paint dry or getting my balls pressurecooked at the moment tbh.

If this was a generic armored guy game, would you still feel strongly about it, or is the fact that this has Warhammer 40K slop all over it make a difference?
