Both:
- They both make you feel like you are fighting hordes.... this one is more melee
- The weapon unlocks are minimal just like Helldivers but it adds some personal preference.
- The story is good.
- The scenery is much better
Ignore Darktide - It needs another year to bake.
I wouldn't say buy the high end versions if you are on the fence, I would say get the regular release and you would have a good time if you like feeling "in the midst" of a battle.
That was such a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disappointment of a release... I hear they're finally fixing weapon progression now.
Also, in complete contradiction to the lore of both games, a Helldiver in HD2 is, faster, better armed, and has access to more firepower than a Space Marine in SM2. (But much much worse at melee.)
On the other hand, this game encourages you to go face things head on instead of run and gun. The whole combat is more deliberate and chunky.
Overall this is a huge let down for me and why I would not buy or recommend it.
Do not get me wrong, the weapons itself are nice or even awesome, but not 40k. They are most of the time too soft and have no "impact". E.g. Heavy Bolter fires like a .308 cal MG, nice but NEVER a heavy bolter. Same with Bolt Pistol, which sounds like a Autopistol. Just no.
Still, the world and details are top-notch, blowing you out of the water, so it IS a nice change of pace. But for 60$ (or even more) vs. 40$ for HD2, HD2 wins any day and SM2 will have to wait for a sale.
Also because I have Darktide, I would rather play this and SM1 again, instead of SM2. SM1 has way better sounding weapons for example (at least overall), makeing SM2 looking strange even more.
Also SM1 is more consistent and believable overall, same with HD2.
IMHO: Additionally the devs got overboard with the UI stuff of SM2, always some circles and colours on the screen, I even checked if it was not Splatoon from Nintendo.
Also 40k Lore is 10000000x better than HD2
Ranking
1. SM2
2. HD2
3. Darktide
Combat control is pure garbage for 2024 AAA game cannot compare to Helldiver 2 or even Darktide
