As a Helldivers 2 player, what's this game like?
I'm not interested in the "SM2 vs HD2" argument, I'm just simply a player who really liked HD2 who wants something new and this game keeps getting tossed around by HD2 players.

I have very minimal knowledge of WH40k but have always enjoyed the design of either the space marines or the tau empire's mechs so if this game requires some knowledge of the universe to enjoy, I might be screwed.

Edit: Thanks everyone for the comments. Was under the impression that SM2 was the same gameplay experience as HD2. Might still pick it up if a friend plays.

Both games have repetitive gameplay mechanics. This game plays more like Doom Eternal in 3rd person as it has things like finishing moves and such.

Both:
- They both make you feel like you are fighting hordes.... this one is more melee
- The weapon unlocks are minimal just like Helldivers but it adds some personal preference.
- The story is good.
- The scenery is much better

Ignore Darktide - It needs another year to bake.

I wouldn't say buy the high end versions if you are on the fence, I would say get the regular release and you would have a good time if you like feeling "in the midst" of a battle.

For Helldivers experience better go Darktide. It's grounded and 4man plus focuses on PvE.

SM 2 is 3 games in total, so less focus, thus less content per each. At least for now.
full disagree, found darktide to just be..bad. i like this one. (then again i also liked HD1 and didnt like HD2 as much as hd1..)

Good Joke

Space Marine plays infinitely better, and has chainswords. The only point of comparison where helldivers wins is it has more content diversity but it's also generic procedural content so you know.

That was such a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disappointment of a release... I hear they're finally fixing weapon progression now.

they're 2 completely different games. SM2 is closer to WWZ then it is HD2

This is waaaay more melee focused.

Also, in complete contradiction to the lore of both games, a Helldiver in HD2 is, faster, better armed, and has access to more firepower than a Space Marine in SM2. (But much much worse at melee.)

On the other hand, this game encourages you to go face things head on instead of run and gun. The whole combat is more deliberate and chunky.

Regarding the vids and playing it at a friend console, I would say the weapons feel not as good and polished as in Helldivers 2 (I do not mean bugged or broken weapons, the overall feeling I mean).
Overall this is a huge let down for me and why I would not buy or recommend it.

Do not get me wrong, the weapons itself are nice or even awesome, but not 40k. They are most of the time too soft and have no "impact". E.g. Heavy Bolter fires like a .308 cal MG, nice but NEVER a heavy bolter. Same with Bolt Pistol, which sounds like a Autopistol. Just no.

Still, the world and details are top-notch, blowing you out of the water, so it IS a nice change of pace. But for 60$ (or even more) vs. 40$ for HD2, HD2 wins any day and SM2 will have to wait for a sale.
Also because I have Darktide, I would rather play this and SM1 again, instead of SM2. SM1 has way better sounding weapons for example (at least overall), makeing SM2 looking strange even more.
Also SM1 is more consistent and believable overall, same with HD2.

IMHO: Additionally the devs got overboard with the UI stuff of SM2, always some circles and colours on the screen, I even checked if it was not Splatoon from Nintendo.

200 hours in HD2 and 800 hours on Darktide. This is the best of the 3. People complain of melee is because they suck at it. Once you get the flow of parry and perfect dodge in relation to armor regeneration, this game is opioid level of addiction. Like drug addcit level the ones you see in the streets of Los Angeles ? Yeah that addictive and dangerous to your health bucko.

Also 40k Lore is 10000000x better than HD2

Ranking

1. SM2
2. HD2
3. Darktide

It's worse then helldivers in very way imaginable.

Dont know yet ill let you know if its the same as helldivers 2 if the first 6 month of the game life is nerfing meta builds into the ground drive off the entire player base then backpeddel with a 60 day plan.
