For some game, you can't have the right resolution of the screen where you move the screen.

yeah, seem to get this very frequently too. Noticed that the screens also swap numbers in the game settings. So one start up it'll show my Dell as #1 and my Asus as #2, the another time it'll show the opposite, Asus #1 and Dell #2.

Currently Dell is #1 and Asus is #2, this matches what Windows display settings shows. I will check if it's swapped in Windows as well next time it happens. If it does then it's an OS thing, but then again, literally no other game does this behaviour of constantly loading on the wrong screen except sometimes the first ever time you play.

If it does swap in Windows, I suspect this game just has a different way of setting which screen to use than every other game, like just sets to "Monitor #1" rather than any kind of hardware ID, so if they swap in Windows, it'll open on the wrong monitor.

Are any of you using resolution scaling in your settings - DSR in nvidia? I had that ticked for a couple of resolutions in control panel (even though I was not using them) and it caused game to open on the wrong monitor because it always wanted to run one of the higher non native resolutions.

So some general thoughts:

Make sure DSR Factors is OFF.

Disable image scaling.

Make sure this is correct for the global and game settings if you have them in control panel.
Set the monitor sequence in control panel and in the windows device settings to make your desired panel default.

Lastly if that doesn't help - can you set the settings ini file for the game to read only and see if that stops the game shifting it.

Final one... if you have onboard graphics on your CPU and motherboard - put your second monitor on that instead of your main gpu. That will fix it as a workaround.
Maybe no good for the 3 monitor folks though sorry.

If any of this helps - please post back up. DSR sorted me out but maybe the other ideas can help if DSR is not your problem.

I do have DSR enabled on both monitors, my main one still being significantly higher than my secondary. I'm not turning it off for one game, I'll just have to keep swapping in settings when it opens on the wrong monitor.

I'm sure they will fix it eventually by changing it to store a hardware ID instead of a simple monitor number from the OS. Not sure why the monitors swap numbers in Windows though.

It's in the game settings. This is not a game issue. This is a computer user issue

Dumb - why is it only this game? Why do you set a monitor then it switches to another monitor next time you open the game sometimes? What should I be doing instead if it's a "computer user issue" :steammocking:

So today, opened on the wrong monitor, and now in-game doesn't match OS. Dell shows #2, Asus as #1. So I have no idea what janky coding they put in this game, as it's not taking OS monitor numbering at all, it's just making it up as it goes I think :steamfacepalm:

Did the same for me, fortunately you can change the display screen in the settings. Did it once when I first opened the game, been fine since.

yeah, this can happen in a lot of games the first time you ever play them, but the annoying part is when it keeps doing it, so you have to go into settings every time you start the game to change it.

No. It is not a "user issue". If I select my monitor, and it runs on my main monitor when i am playing, and then it goes and LAUNCHES on the wrong monitor every single time I open it despite having changed the monitor to be the correct one, in the settings, then it is a GAME issue.

If it happened once, fair enough, but it forgets my selection, quite literally every time i boot the game up

ALT+enter is a quick solution, but with different resolution it wont even show it, I hope it will be fixed soon cause without turning off the second monitor it does not work in the right way.

Same problem here

Same issue here, keep having to swap it on every startup
Zerschmetterlink Oct 10, 2024 @ 2:08pm
Got this issue, too. Game seems to handle multi monitors differently then other games, switching around 1st and 2nd monitor - apparently without getting this information from the OS.
